YES. Now this, THIS is the good shit.
Much like the Doctor I spent much more time looking at the pictures of these yesterday. Sure, they're not particularly poseable (would it have killed Hasbro to include a couple of elbows?), and the concept is nonsense, but they also look like FUN. This is what I'm here for.
Optimus Prime pulling a dog's spine out of its arse to use as a weapon? Sold. Arcee skinning a dog to wear it as a hat? SOLD. Optimus Primal skinning *Megatron* to wear as a hat and scarf? SOLD!
Sure, Bumblebeagle with his Angry Birds Boobs is a bit odd, but it's crazy stuff like this that'll keep the kids interested, and keep the line going. And at the end of the day, Transformers should be for kids, too. More unpredictable shit like this, please and thank you.

I mean £5.99 doesn't sound like enough to me - I'm fairly sure that the Siege Battlemasters were something like £7.99 at the same size point, and that was four or so years ago. Given that there's ever-increasing year-on-year profits to support, I'd expect them to be closer to a tenner. But you never know...

Given Hasbro refuse to package toys in alt mode these days it's the box artwork that's meant to show us what he turns into. I guess this shows that there's an assumption (and possibly a correct one) that that's not needed for Optimus Prime because it's OPTIMUS PRIME, and everyone knows who he is anyway. As to the toys themselves, I'm not sure how I feel about them. Rhinox certainly just looks quite drab and uninteresting - so at least he's true to his screen model. Prime looks good, but I'm really going to have to see what he's like in hand - the Studio Series Bumblebee Movie version of the character is really good, so this'll have to bring something extra to the table to warrant purchasing. |
