So much for prominent characters having an advantage in these polls.
I'd love Starscream to be real, just to see his reaction to these poll results.

When I was setting up The Great Catalogue Sub-Group Poll I was aware that there were some issues arising that wouldn't fit into the structure that I devised that gave you one opportunity to vote for each toy once only. So every so often I want to do an extra poll. This won't be every week, but I'll try to do one starting every bank holiday Monday when a few people will be online. I said there'd be a poll on a Bank Holiday*, I didn't promise there would only be a poll on a Bank Holiday. * with caveats in place for Bank Holodays less than week apart and those on a Friday. There will be TWO more non bank holiday polls in the next few weeks to cover matters arising on 1985 catalogues.

What's the point of including the individual Constructicons? Obviously Devastator (= the entire set of Constructicons) is better than any of them.
(And, incidentally, better than any of the other individual TFs listed. He turns into six Triple Changers, for crying out loud!)

Agreed with Martin, Devastator has more toy value than anyone else on that list.

Phil's providing a list of toys that meet the criteria of the question. In terms of impartiality it'd be wrong to leave out valid options just because you don't value them.

Going completely on the 'not available in the UK'angle then Swoop would be the main one as he was pretty much the first character that stood out as such. Shockwave sort of did too, but the novelty was diluted a bit because the 'Radio Shack' version was pretty common where I was. Perceptor also became one of my favourite characters and was my first ever US only toy (along with Ratbat) in the early days of Transmasters thanks to Pete Sinclair. But the ones that I really wanted to collect when I saw this catalogue for the first time (and assumed they were new toys due for 1986) were the Constructicons, so Devastator gets my vote here. (It was Mixmaster I wanted first of course!)

OK, I suppose it's just conceivable that someone could think that one of the individual Constructicons (let's say Mixmaster) was better on his own than Jetfire, Perceptor or Shockwave, but at the same time thought that the other five Constructicons were so bad that they were worse than nothing, and so had negative value, making Mixmaster better than the full Constructicon team. I suppose it's theoretically possible. Martin

There were so many... so many.... By my reckoning 18 in 1985. 1986 has 14, 1987 & 1988 have 12 each. 1988 is interesting as there are loads of toys on the 88 US Catalogue that weren't on the UK one but were available here!

Martin I remember the Pretender Vehicles (as Woolworths Exclusives) The first three Micromaster teams in 1988 (in 1988 packaging) showing up Christmas time. The Triggerbots/Cons then came out early 1989 as part of that UK range - and of course they are included in the 1989 UK toy leaflet to reflect this.

I'm not 100% sure about that actually.... Triggerbots feature in US TF46 on sale July 88 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=59167I remember buying this issue and not being surprised by them: I think they were out here in 88 in some capacity, maybe as another Woolworths exclusive. Woolworths have a very close relationship with Hasbro UK in this time period.

Perhaps it was just in my area. But I was pretty anal about the releases back in the day (when I thought I was the only person my age buying these things) and actually had an opposite reaction to you.
I remember seeing these new guys (Triggerbots/Cons)in the comic not knowing who they were and then discovering the toys on a U.S leaflet in a toy after Christmas 1988. The advert for the Triggerbots also featured heavily in early 1989 (I still have it on a VHS tape). I bought them from Toys R Us early 1989. And of course, they were featured in the UK 1989 toy catalogue (with all the Pretenders & Micromasters from that year).
But perhaps Chatham was a little behind the rest of the world (and probably still is!)

Damn, I loved finding a new toy range in the shops that the comic had not already told me about.
Throttlebots and series 1 Headmasters/Targetmasters stick in my memory as being particular instances where I was joyfully scribbling away writing down their names, allegiances and functions in the shop and trying to work out if I'd spotted them all.

I had to go with Shockwave again. I hesitated over Omega Supreme, and Swoop as well actually, but in the end,
THERE COULD ONLY BE ONE (EYE).

Having finally voted in the weekly poll, I've finally come across to likewise vote here. For... er... Devastator. And not Shockwave. Yeah.
I'm not sure why, but seeing Devastator and Shockwave side by side, Shockwave looks like the better toy. But look at the whole assortment, and suddenly the fiddle factor of Devastator looks more appealing. I can't quite explain it. Except by saying that I'm not quite right in the head.

Not sure Swoop is the best, but as the member mising from the team, probably the one I most wanted.
He is however slightly disappointing compared to the other Dinobots so I can sort of see Hasbros call to cut him. Its just unfortunate that he seemed to get slightly more than average screen time and that Marvel UK then decided to feature him more than was neccesary.
Cutting either Slag or snarl would have possibly made more sense as they are relatively similar in appearance compared to any other pairing.
I dont remember desperately wanting Devastator, maybe because I wasnt reading the comics at the time and given the cartoons slow pace of screenings in the UK I doubt I saw more than one episode with them until a few years later. Or maybe its just because they did turn up eventually the yearning has been forgotten. Or maybe I didn't realise they werent just another scramble city type team. Who knows.
