To make sure no one has swapped out the toy.
But yes it looks ridiculous. Im not gonna complain though, I like being able to flat pack the packaging.
I am surprised that there isnt some kind of eco friendly biodegradable plastic alternative that could be used just to cover the window.

Tarn sold out at Pulse already. Ordered from Star.

To make sure no one has swapped out the toy. Is that really a big problem, though? I mean, Hasbro has killed the window altogether in Marvel Legends, some Power Rangers, and has had windowless packaging on leaders for a minute now.

Well, we did know about most of those, and do indeed know about more. But it's nothing unusual to only get a handful of interesting reveals, and these were pretty nice ones, so I'll take 'em.
Tarn looks great. Just what I was hoping for. So I'll be picking one of him up when I see him on shelves. I could pre-order, but I really want to go into a store and find a Tarn. I just do.
Lio Convoy (not Leo Prime, or whatever) also looks good. A slight upgrade to the Robot Masters version, which is the only version of the character I own, so I'll be grabbing him.
The Junkions look fun. I like the part-Weaponizer idea, with them being properly transf- convertable characters on their own, and the Weaponizer parts beign customisable add-ons - there's a lot of mileage in that. But I'll see how they look in someone else's hands before decididing whether or not to take a punt on these.
Needlenose is disappointing, which is fitting for our fandoms permanent loser. Not Needlenose himself, of course, but the Targetmasters, which once again are crap. I know the originals were exactly the same, but... that's the point. It's thirty years later - they should be better.
So a slightly mixed bag here.

Also on the image: Armada Optimus Prime - possibly tmukhub.proboards.com/thread/10564/takara-select-armada-optimus-prime
Crosscut (Skids repaint)
Grimlock (core)
Swoop (core)
Bombshell & Shrapnel
Barage, Chopshop and Venom (?)
Car Junkion (left) looking rather like Lockdown
Bike Junkion (right)
2 cut n shut Junkions formed from Scraphook, with two Bike fronts
Bike Junkion with Scraphead front sidecar and some missiles I can't see elsewhere And don't forget that big Decepticon mask in the middle there. Initial thought was that that was Tarn, but that doesn't really match his toy. There's been some speculation that this could be the face for the robot mode for the Titan class Nemesis, which is kind of promised by this poster. But Gears and Polar Claw would advise caution...

Leo Prime/Lio Convoy: Acceptable. It's much better than a lot of other figures out there. I wish they'd leaned more into realism in the beast mode, making it fit better with the other modern BWs, but at least it isn't that god awful weeabu lion that the MP does.
Tarn: Looks good. I have zero attachment to the character, and have zero attachment to the comic he comes from. So no negative opinions based on how it looks, but neither does it excite me like Jhiaxus.
Hotshot: I feel like he should have been a voyager, so he could have a better car, come with Jolt, and the Star Saber. I kinda feel like this is a sidestep from the Universe one. It's better in some ways, but worse in others.
Breakdown: It's Breakdown. We largely knew what we were getting, even before it was leaked. Nothing to say.
Needlenose: It's nice, but very whelming.
Scraphook: I'm tired of weaponizers. They're QC nightmares. After the second or third time "transforming" one (you don't really transform a weaponizer, so much as reconfigure it), it can't hold itself together anymore. And by the third time a mold is used, it's absolutely worthless and falls apart in your hands. (I'd enjoy the fossilizers much more without the weaponizer gimmick) It saddens me he's a weaponizer, because otherwise this is the coolest looking new TF design we've gotten in ages.
Black Soundwave: Meh.

With the possible exception of Tarn, there's just something off about all of these, isn't there?

Hooray! No, wait, the other thing. Oh well...
And I'd totally forgotten about that iteration of the Bludgeon design, which is clearly what they'll be going with, and not the freakier, jaw-less IDW 1.0 version. Which is a shame.

I haven't read any of it. The plan was to do it via the complete hardbacks after I stopped buying floppies at the end of AHM, but fate meant switching that to the Hachette books and I haven't got to those yet.

AHM was shameful criminal shit and killed all interested for me in... other people's ideas about Transformers.
Transformers are mine. *I* decide what happens.

Fizzle also had a similar head with that sort of knight helmet type grill thing. Was he their long lost brother too?
