So yeah. I tried this. It took a long time, because it still didn't want to do what is being shown. It finally did so with excessive force.
It works, it seems like this is how this is intended, and the instructions are particularly bad.
The robot mode is still fairly unstable.

This toy's engineering is an exceptionally shitty design.
I hope it's fixed moving forward. If not, I don't care about G1 Skyquake or any other recolor, because I won't waist another $50+ on it again.

I now see they have different guns. Skyquake's Shredder Rake looks better than Dreadwing's Sausage Wang Throbber.
