The thing is most TFs these days have 5mm fists (Burns: Metroplex or Power Master Prime sized).
I can see the appeal of 5mm fist characters hold 3mm pegs (Burns: Cyberverse or Flipchanger sized pegs)
3mm pegs though would support an adaptor up to 5mm size.
So that really just leaves the larger toys: Metroplex, Fort Max and Cybertron Prime being the main offenders. And for each of them the parts are dual purpose

Man and child, Ralph gets upset about mixing weapons about between TF's. They should only ever hold the ones they come with!

I mentioned this idea on the 2005 Boards this morning hoping to drum up some interest. To my surprise I found that one of my ideas A slightly over double length 5mm peg would perform the opposite job of turning a socket into a peg. A lip halfway along the length would stop it recessing into deep sockets. Add to the part above to allow Max to mount Minicons on the top of his hands Has already been done! See www.shapeways.com/model/212450/double-ended-5mm-pegs-x9.html for details. Gonna have me a set of those.

Nice idea those pegs, what size are the Lego ones of a similar design?

Lego ones are similar just not quite enough friction. I'll report back when I get them as to what they're like.

TBH I would have been surprised if you hadn't already tried them! Love that Lego design lip/groove locking mechanism on their pegs

The lip is necessary to stop the peg recessing too far and beint irretrievable

Can't comment on Ralph's enjoyment, but I did find myself reading that article with interest - especially the bit on Technic pegs and Zoids Blox adaptors. One rummage in my box for the first oversized KO gun and Minicon I could find saw some experiments take place. The Technic Peg trick works like a charm - and means that things like the PCC Minicons can become the great Targetmasters so many of them looked like they would be. The Bloxs adaptor thing is a bit more situationally specific - but it works really well with the guns from those over-sized Flipchanger KO's from a couple of years back (the KO's have long since gone out, but at least one of the guns landed in my "box of serial-numberless guns"). AoE Runaway Mode Prime is currently using the adaptor to tote around a suppressed Mac-10 to go with his shotgun. I need to have a look to see what Mini-cons I still have for turning into Targetmasters methinks. Karl

Can anyone think of a small platform with a 5mm peg on it? I was thinking of putting one on one of Trypticon's revolving posts to stand a figure on. NO! YOU GO TOO FAR!!! The old toys didn't have these mysterious millimetre things! Just holes for guns! Holes for guns! They have holes that you put guns in! Usually in the hands. -Ralph

Takara's Microman toy has a standard 5mm peg system for interchangeable parts where you're encouraged to swap them between the toys. BOTH of Microman's successors inherit the peg system which is why Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Megatron, Soundwave, Blaster, Perceptor, the tapes and Devastator ALL have 5mm pegs or peg holes on them. I'm sorry, it's the truth. www.microforever.com/microdesign.htm

Micromasters and Action Masters have holes in the feet. I am not aware of their mm-i-ness though. Having just pulled a box out the loft they look the same 3mm gauge as the Cyberverse weapons pegs. WHAT???!!! DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF MILLIMETRES? !!!! SHIT THE BED! -Ralph

I'm with Doc'. All Transformers should have their original guns.
Buuuut
Sometimes you can augment and swap and experiment and BASICALLY GO CRAZY!!!
UNIVERSALHOLESANDPEGSRUUUULLLLEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had fun experimenting and swaping and mucking about with 5mm hole/pegs. My voyager FoC Soundwave is currently utilising my G1 reissue Soundwave's rifle....
BUT DOC' IS RIIIIIGGHHTTT!!!!! GOD BLESS HIM AND ALL THOSE WHO SAIL IN HIM!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely - interchangeability is key. I, for example, have armed my Generations Orion Pax with Fall of Cybertron Prime's weapons, and vice versa. Because they suit the characters better.
Because they suit the original designs of the characters better. Those weapons are *their* weapons.
EVERYONE IS RIGHT! AND EVERYONE IS TALKING IN CAPS!

You swap Minicons and Minicons weapons between toys.
My Legends Prowl holds the gun that came with Legends Bluestreak.
I'm thinking of giving Leader Magnus FOC Magnus' sword and letting him hold it by plugging it into the end of the hammer. Because the hammer has a 5mm peg hole in the handle and the sword I a 5mm peg Ican do that.
Loved clip and bar, attaching weapons to all those poor TFs that had none

Love Pteraxodon. Great dino mode - would love one with black swapped for grey and green for red or blue. Each wing has the same line of blast effects connectors found on Megatron's sword or Lionizer's tail: I think the missed a trick not putting the same connectors on the crest of his head. Blast effect attaches to these or to a single blast point the other way round. Axe and Gun modes are good. All you need is a 5mm peg riser and you'd get a crossbow out of him too. What the heck is a The Millimetre riser??? You're making things up now! -Ralph

A riser is something that makes something higher up.
So a 5mm peg riser would be a 5mm socket cup mounted on a 5mm peg
