Like an extension to the handle so it sits higher than the hand holding it.
A riser is basically a support to lift something higher up. Like the drummer in a band always sits on a platform at the back that lifts them up a bit; that platform is a drum riser.

It's very likely a drum kit will be on a riser if the band is performing on a stage. See evidence from your own favourite black lace - the drum kit behind them is on a small platform. Called a drum riser.
And millimeters are very versatile. They are actually a measurement, not a hole. So they can measure the width of a hole, as in a 5mm socket in a fist for a gun, or the diameter of the post that sits in the hole. if both are 5mm that ensures a snug fit and no one goes around dropping their gun.

Can Ralph explain what a centimetre is just so we can establish where this lunacy is going to end?

A centimetre is made up of 100 millimetres and can be found on rulers in schools.

1 meter = 100 centimeters
1 meter = 1000 millimeters
1 centimeter = 10 millimeters

Post by Grand Moff Muffin on Apr 27, 2019 19:16:42 GMT
1 meter = 100 centimeters 1 meter = 1000 millimeters 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters In America, that is. In the Old World, 1 metre = 100 centimetres 1 metre = 1000 millimetres 1 centimetre = 10 millimetres And a meter is what measures your electricity or gas usage. Martin

What school actually told you is that metric measurements use a metre as a standard unit. A centimetre is one hundredth of that, cent being Latin for one hundred. A millimetre is a thousandth of a metre, mille being Latin for one thousand. So there are ten millimetres in one centimetre.

Drums are also placed on risers in studios for recording too.
I recall an interview with a sound engineer talking about the recording of the Bad album (could be Spike Lee's Bad25 documentary?) where MJ asked why the drum kit was on it and when given the answer he asked to stand on it when they recorded his vocals for a track. Can't remember which. Interesting guy that MJ, shame about the allegations.
