I don't think it's *that* bad, but I'd certainly like to see this one and the original one next to the new SS Megatron before committing to buy. The Deluxe is certainly better looking, but may be too small next to the Megatron.

I really do not like the proportions in this. True the wings on the in-game model are pretty small, but these are small enough to just look "wrong" against the main fuselage, they've not added any detailing to it to give it a bit of visual interest - this is fine in the game where you are usually looking at the back of it, and in motion against the background at any given time. But in a physical object that is going to sit on someone's shelves in a stationary pose a lot of the time...eee...not doing it any favours.

Part of the problem here is that for video games, certainly back then, you want to keep the mesh for the model as simple as possible for rendering speed and let the texturing carry the fine detail. If you stripped the textures off the game models, they'd look not dissimilar to these toys.
Conversely, if these toys had Netflix Siege levels of paint apps, they'd look more appealing because they're designed to be textured. I'd also say that these specific toys might benefit from the hyperdetailing in the moulding that Siege had, but the backlash Hasbro got from fans for doing that has probably scared them off.

If you stripped the textures off the game models, they'd look not dissimilar to these toys. Yep. Something you can see sometimes in games when meshes load but textures take a while to pop in. Always amusing Was there a backlash to that? I remember a lot of complaints about some of the paint-app choices in that era, but not so much on the actual moulded detail? I obviously missed that. (Even my point of closest approach in my orbit around Transformers fandom tends to be distant enough these days that there is a certain amount of information loss and distortion in what I pick up). He looks beefier than Megatron. Not sure that works. He needs to be a head shorter. I think the old one looks far better. Wonder if he'll look too short with the new Megatron.

I hated the first one. It was a very weak transformation to a very weak and ugly design, the only Starscream design uglier than bayverse. Though I might have been more forgiving towards it had it a new deco and character, but as Starscream? Or any of the seekers? No. That's like decoing the Hulk in red and blue and saying "This is our Spiderman, isn't he awesome?" (In fact, that's how most of these game designs look to me, but this and swoop are the worst) All that said, at least it made for a fairly believable fantasy jet.
This one? This one can't even do that. The robot looks worse than the old deluxe, the jet is one of the most nonsense "it's a _____ because we say it is" alt modes in recent years. And from what I hear, it doesn't even really look like his game version.

Those side-by-side comparisons with the original toy do that Starscream no favours. The new version just looks bigger, clumsier and uglier than the original. Who signed off on that..?

Mind you, Mark's done himself no favours by using the Takara version of the 2012 toy. The finish on that is far superior to the Hasbro one.

I fear I am destined to buy all the FOC style figures. Remember at one point I was set on getting all the Planet X ones until they got too expensive and too many. I still need Slag to complete the six Dinobots they did.

The originals can still be found for not much. Got a cheap Magnus recently. Last year I got MISB Blaster/Soundwave/Grimlock for around £30. Air Raid cost me £20. Then opened and disposed of the boxes.

I've got all of the original ones except Bruticus, I have the Ruination repaint instead. One of my earliest 3P experiments was to fit that Magnus with an upgrade kit that made him much bigger. It wasn't very good.

Gamer Megatron is... Nice for what it is. Definitely one for FoC enthusiasts only. He doesn't have the bulk of the Optimus figure, pretty spindly and the head is ridiculously small. I do quite like it although I pretty much like any Megatrons. But it would be hard to recommend, even for the £20 it cost in ID's Black Friday sale. Tank mode doesn't quite say tank, even if it's screen accurate. It's an okay toy rather than a disaster, but not a necessary purchase.

I'm trying, I really am. I mean, I know that no one other than me gives a flying fig about these Gamer Ed figures and I'm desperate to stay positive about them but oh dear me. I wasn't actually going to buy Barricade, you know, with him not being an 80s character, but I can't resist a cheap sale deal and it means Megatron has a buddy to go with.
It was going well. Out of the box he's got a chunky robot mode and looks really good. He's got a nice transformation that has some slidy bits and some rotaty bits and you can make the right noises as you twirl everything round. His car mode fits together properly and easily, not like the nightmare that is Gamer Bumblebee. The car mode, although a bit too rectangular, is a nice swooshy scf-fi car. I genuinely thought we were onto a winner. It's all good. Even though he doesn't have ankle rockers, he can strike a pose. Finally, I thought, a legitimate recommendation.
But.
That was when I tried to stand him up. But he can't. He can't stay upright. He has big flat feet but no heel spurs, so vertical he just rolls onto his back. Like Steeljaw does. You have to kind of angle his body forward to balance him which makes it look like he's in the middle of doubling over. This was so close to being a hit. So so close. But, it's not. I cannot recommend a figure that just won't stay upright.

He could be such a good figure. He's big for a Deluxe - hefty and well proportioned. Towers over normal Legacy Deluxes. Makes Megatron look positively skinny. Which he is anyway I suppose.
All it needed was a heel spur.
Why do you hurt me so, Hasbro?
