The translation of the product page suggests the crowdfunding is for early delivery of the toy, and that it will be on general sale afterwards. It isn't clear though. I really hope this comes our way somehow.

It is a cross-promotion with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. I suspect that the contractural negotiations were a Tomy thing rather than a Hasbro deal. Since Hasbro and Takara have become so unified, the very few endeavors that Takara has undergone have all been offered by Hasbro, even if in low numbers. I'm thinking this is likely to not make it to the west, given that it is Japanese space agency cross-promotional toy, and the alt-mode is clearly is a "with permission" version of their concept design. I'd suspect that this one will remain a domestic exclusive sadly Which is a shame, because it is a lovely toy. The design is great, I love the idea of Prime as an exploration vehicle, the humanoid mode looks great - with the solar array up on the shoulder like a big sheild <SHiElD: ON!> especially. The only thing is, because of my recent tokusatsu exposure the white "astronaut" colour scheme just makes me think of Kamen Rider: Fourze. Although the idea of Optimus Prime as an honorary member of Kamen Rider Club, trying to sneak around the school to avoid drawing attention to himself whilst inexplicably disguised as a lunar rover is absurd in a very Fourze way... I think I'd prefer this all white instead of shoehorning in OP red. Would be very reminiscent of Classics Ultra Magnus.

Yeah, an integrated and coherent colour scheme would look much better. As it is it looks like G1 Optimus wearing some lunar cruiser parts.

Crossover toys often have the casual fan in mind and folk who go "that is cool!". Optimus Prime has much more name recognition outside The Fandom so it makes sense in context to do this as him rather than Ultra Magnus.
We are not the full market* for this.
