They aren't on UK yet, just US. I'd checked the US site yesterday or the day before and hadn't seen them there either! V. happy to see the Nocenti Daredevil run continued; I haven't picked up the Defenders volume as I hear such mixed things about Dematteis' run. Mixed bag but the next volume is the good end of it as it moves towards New Defenders. Actually lets have a think about this. Aprox 20 issues a volume. Defenders v8 starts 110, finishes.... lets say 127 allowing for a double sized issue at 125. So that's 30 remaining issues after that, 2 of which are doubles, call it 32. 4 issues for Gargoyle, 4 issues for Beauty & The Beast, 4 issues for iceman, 44 issues. Team Up 111 (Devil Slayer) 116 Valkyrie, 119 (Gargoyle) 124 (Beast) 48 issues (some of those will go in v8, reducing down the start number for v9 to about the start of New Defenders. showcase.marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Defenders_Vol_1marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Marvel_Team-Up_Vol_1I've been getting through some Epics lately; Wolverine v1 was great fun (and I wouldn't mind a v2 with the Byrne art run), also recently finished the second PM/IF which is pretty good until the end of Duffy's writing but then goes seriously off the boil IIRC v2 finishes c#90? Kurt Busiek comes on board then and writes a storming story in the run up to 100. 100 itself is brilliant, everything an anniversary issues should be. Also currently going through Power Pack Classic with Charlotte, which she is really loving (and me too, it's good stuff!). -Jim Loved the three volumes they did of that, wish they'd done more but am well aware he best issues are in those 3 volumes and it goes rapidly off the boil after that.

Right, Defenders Epics. Checking what was out when here's how I think it'll stack up: v8: 110-125, Team Up 111 (Devil Slayer) 116 Valkyrie, 119 (Gargoyle) 124 (Beast), 21 issues. v9: 126-140, Beauty & The Beast 1-4, 20 issues. v10 141-152, Iceman 1-4, Gargoyle 1-4, X-Factor 1, 20 issues. (125, 150 & 152 are double issues, so count as 2. The first 3 Team ups were out during v7, but putting them in v8 gets it to finish on 125 which ends with The New Defenders. Beauty & The Beast & Iceman both ran Bi Monthly from the same month Defenders 138 was out. www.mikesamazingworld.com/features/newsstand.php?type=cover&month=12&year=1984&publisher=marvel&sort=alpha&checklist=nullDefenders 141 starts with The Beast returning home so..... Gargoyle starts the same month as 144 and the last issues of Beauty & The Beast and Iceman. I could only get 18 issues for the last volume but since Angel, Beast & Iceman go on to be in X-Factor and X-Factor 1 includes some scenes at the Defenders base it's a sensible inclusion)

I keep telling you: The Champions is the far superior oddball Marvel superhero team-up book of that era.

While I regard the Champions, especially the Manlo/Byrne issues, to be Very Good Squishy and indeed have the trades here, I think the Gerber Defenders run is better and more radio rental. Plus as an X-Men fan I like the New Defenders for teaming The Beast, Angel and Iceman which is one more X-Man than the Champions had. There's a fair few Champions references in New Defenders.
Plus it has a Secret Wars II crossover that The Champions doesn't so by Ralph's own method of scoring has to be better!

Not even Secret Wars II could save The Defenders. That's how bad it was.

Ok, I just looked up that Doctor Strange run and there are some good names involved. There might be some mad-mid-90s-Marvel interest in this (I already knew the P Craig Russell one-shot from back in the day).

The X-Factor Epic Collection 1: Genesis & Apocalypse Paperback is finally here. This started off a first appearance of Apocalypse book to tie in to the film in Feb 16 I think, got bumped to May 16 and ended up in March 17 as an Epic collection. COLLECTING: AVENGERS (1963) 263 FANTASTIC FOUR (1961) 286 X-FACTOR (1986) 1-9 X-FACTOR ANNUAL 1 IRON MAN ANNUAL 8 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 282 MATERIAL FROM CLASSIC X-MEN 8, 43. Now for me this is something special: X-Factor was the first ever ongoing title I bought regularly, after having bought a bunch of Alpha Flight in the early 20s and then Secret Wars II so I'm pleased to see it get traded as I have some affection for the material even if I don't think it's much good anymore and think he effect of the book isn't a great one (I'll take this point up later in The X-Men thread) From my trade collecting point of view it nicely plugs the gap pre Mutant Massacre for X-Factor (which contains 9-11) leaving the gap between that and the Fall of the Mutants trade (18-26) as the new sore point for this title. And the lack of a complete X-Factor: Whilce Portacio book. You'd expect the run up issues to X-Factor to be in there and they are. I'm not 100% sure I'd ever read their Iron Man Annual and ASM appearance before (both missing from the Amazon listing) But the supplementary material is superb: original pages from the FF comic before editing, Marvel Age articles, pictures of the team in the original costume designs styled more like the Angel's costume. In short this is the sort of comic compilation I want to own and am so pleased it's out.

If anyone's tempted by the imminent New Mutants Epic Collection, it's down to £20.06 today on Amazon I'll probably pick one up from a proper shop in order to be sure of getting one in perfect nick. Today I bought Volume 77 of the 'Marvel's Mightiest Heroes' partwork for £9.99, containing Marvel Graphic Novel #4 and New Mutants #18-21 Martin

Just started reading the New Mutants Epic, not read this stuff before. That surprises me James, given how much of an X-Man fan you are. Have you read any New Mutants Crossover bits, and the tail end of series leading into X-Force. Quite looking forward to it, considering the era it's from. From your contents post, Magik 1-4 is in the New Mutants Epic, not sure if they'd put it in X-Men too. And the Classic X-Men back ups are appearing in other places [couple in the X-Factor Epic]. Doubt we'll see the edited versions of the stories from the early Classic X-Men issues in the reprints, but they might mention them in the extras and showcase the added pages, if not the changed speech bubbles.

I think they would include Magik: although it's come to be seen as a New Mutants story over time, because of Illyanna's involvement in that group (she's not seen in the first Epic Collection) she was an X-Men character at the time, the entire series is set in between panels in an X-Men issue and there's lots of X-Men in it.

I could see them putting Magik in both volumes if the story fits; they haven't been afraid of doing this kind of thing especially with the Silver Surfer and Black Panther volume 1s.
I am looking forward to NM vol 1, too! Have also only read crossover bits and pieces and the latter pre-X-Force stuff. I think it might be one to read with my daughter too; we have almost finished Power Pack vol 3 and she enjoyed their guest appearance. She's also a bit of a Cloak and Dagger and Kitty and Wolverine fan at this point...

Both the New Mutants & Excalibur trades have dropped in price on Amazon, as they usually do just before release, to £20.06 and £22.78 respectively.
Looking forward to owning those Excalibur issues again. Regret clearing my Classic & Visionaries volumes.

Awesome, will get an Excalibur order in too, then. I don't remember it well, but I have a feeling it's fairly kid-friendly so might be the next one to go through with Charlotte. We just started Power Pack again from the beginning after reaching the end of Classic volume 3 (might have to hit up eBay for the remaining floppies of Louise Simonson's run).

Power Pack Classic v3 prints up to 26. 27 is in The Mutant Massacre 35 is in Fall of the Mutants v2 40 and 42-3 are Inferno v1 44 is in Inferno v2 Obviously I've read those and, I think, a few others (looking at marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Power_Pack_Vol_1 I've definitely got 36 in London) but memory says it goes really off the boil post 25. I may have to floppy hunt the rest of the issues myself now.

26 is actually quite a nice, natural endpoint anyway so I'm not in a rush. Not a bad issue count for an Omnibus, actually, and all that nice June Brigman / Brent Anderson / John Bogdanove art would be great to see oversized...

New Mutants Epic Collection v1 arrived yesterday.
Was quite surprised to find Magik at the end, after NM 12, the first issue of the title I read, rather than at the start, since the events in Belsaco's realm precede the Graphic Novel.
However something in the framing sequence at the start of 1 and end of 4 tickled a memory and I've been down to the library just now to check: the framing sequences in Magik are set imediately prior to New Mutants 14, Illyana's first issue in the title. Indeed the start of 14 covers much the same ground as the end of Magik 4 with Illyana on the hill and the New Mutants being let out of class early to play in the snow.
Ok it's in the wrong position by one issue, but I guess that's driven by the need to have Magik all in one volume.
