We don't know for sure he's dead yet. And even if he is he'll be back somewhere.
For example I counted the leaked next line deluxes yesterday: 11 toys. Room for an addition in one wave there.

It's interesting that he got as far as having a product number, but then got dropped from wave 2 and now it seems again from wave 5. I bet there's an interesting reason why.

Thinking about it, wave five is all reissues or straight repaints. There's no new moulds or even remoulding in that lot, Sureshot wouldn't fit that pattern. It's definitely a low cost filler wave. You wouldn't want to lose a G1 update like Sureshot in that.

Different market. Takara Tomy don't have the same price points as Hasbro so ML may not fit their business model.

Because at $100+, ML is something that you largely place on the shelf and look at. Meanwhile, this is a veeeeery similar standard deluxe, at the standard deluxe price, which makes it a much better fiddle toy.

Exactly. And it also has the C.O.M.B.A.T. C.O.L.I.N. connector ports, which means it'll go well with fiugres in the rest of the Generations line. Whereas ML Prime, as good as he is, who does he go with..? (Well, other ML figures. But you know what I mean.)

I sense that this is going to get a Premium Edition repaint, possibly with the ER trailer included. Like ML, he has all of the original sticker details sculpted in. But unlike his counterpart, almost none of it is painted. Also, I feel they missed an opportunity to give him an advantage over ML (apart from the dramatically cheaper price), by not giving him the standard "COMBAT system" ports. It would have been a blast to equip him with Megatron's fusion cannon. While it would have also made it easier to make Ultra Magnus weaponizer trailer armor for him at a later date. |

Hmm, yes. I was distracted by the C.O.M.B.A.T. C.O.L.I.N. ports on the back of the truck there, and missed that he didn't have any on his arms, or his cab roof - which does limit play again. And I'd not considered that he will inevitably get a nicer repaint. Ah well, I'll pick this one up anyway. And who knows, maybe they will remold this slightly to do Ultra Magnus - I'd be surprised if they didn't.
