On one hand, I applaud them for actually giving us something that isn't just a Tron VW pretending to be a four million year old alien vehicle, ala the rest of Siege.
On the other hand, it's...not...great. slavish adherence to sunbow... it was bad on starscream, but it's actually ruining what could be a great toy, here. VW parts in robot are awful, and forces his entire vehicle mode to be the worst kibble we've seen in a long time.
And why they make him look like Charlie Brown? What's up with the zigzag?

Uhhhhhhhhhhh.... Small child would love a "Bumblebee with wings". But based on those pics, I don't think he looks all that great either. Car mode's great, but robot mode? Kibbletastrophy. Like CJ said- too many VW parts in robot mode. Spoiling the broth.

It is rather a large box. Which does call into question Hasbro's claim to being more environmentally conscious...
But that aside, I love it. Yeah, it's not perfect, but then that's what happens when you take two cartoon models that were really never meant to convert from one to the other. It's as good as we're going to get in an affordable way, and as such I am very happy with it. Slightly disappointed that we never got him as part of Siege, though, but I'm guessing that it's because the aesthetic and/or detailing doesn't quite match that line. Or maybe they just heard me whining incessantly. One of the two. Either way, I've waited 36 years for this, so I'm very happy.
The question now is: Will we get bread van Wheeljack and Croc Jazz also? Jazz seems like a possibility - you could get an approximation of his alt-mode from Arrival from Cybertron by replacing the SS Jazz's backpack/car roof with some different tooling, and maybe a tweak to the legs, and he'd be fine. Wheeljack on the other hand would require a lot more work. But then I never thought we'd get this, so...

I also never realized that he transformed differently in the cartoon. That's kind of interesting. |

Wait. So the toy from the general-availablity, inexpensive line has a non-faux chest that is used as part of its alt-mode, and high-end, collectable, premium-priced "Masterpiece" toys generally... do not, and have to cheat? What a world. I must have this toy.
(Yes, I know - MPs are going for a different aesthetic that it isn't possible to achieve with parts re-use. But all the same, this is cleverer than I was expecting.)

Yeah, I was gonna criticise it for having earthmode feet, but it's totally on point with the animation model as they preserved the earth bot mode. Well done designers.

The kibble in robot mode looks rubbish, but Cybertronian mode looks fantastic.
Hmmmm not sure. 'Bumblebee with wings' is a household favourite. Is this going to be readily available or one of those blink and you'll miss the pre-order type situations?
