He looks pretty much exactly like I expected, red head and all.
He seems to be listed as Slag - is this the first time he’s been called that since G2?

Bloody hell, just put a hinge at the knees. It wouldnt require additional sprues, I doubt it would even require extra plastic. Just two extra parts that need clipping together on the production line and you get a functional exosuited figure.

Newer photos look better, still way too much red. Cartoon colours are silly.

They do look pretty good together. Wow, imagine if we do get all five of them like this. I'm not putting money on that just yet though.

Fake chest? And who cares about 'Daniel'?! Jeez! I care. -Ralph

He's way too big. Inappropriately so. Needed to be a voyager. And a fifty dollar toy with such a simple transformation scheme like slag should not have a fake chest.

Daniel permanently has his legs bent as if he is needing a dump. He won't be able to stand next to Spike. Poor soul.

Just two extra parts that need clipping together on the production line and you get a functional exosuited figure. Absolutely this. I can kinda understand why they didn't bother for Wheelie (actually I can't) but for Daniel this makes no sense. Worse, the exosuits transform by lying down - thanks to his permanently bent legs he can't even do that now! How can they have gotten this so wrong..? He's way too big. Inappropriately so. Needed to be a voyager. And a fifty dollar toy with such a simple transformation scheme like slag should not have a fake chest. I kinda like his size - it's the one thing that's tempting me. And whilst I'm similarly annoyed by his fake chest, I am wondering if it perhaps opens up to store his beast mode lower jaw inside - so maybe it is at least functional, and not just entirely decorative. Daniel permanently has his legs bent as if he is needing a dump. He won't be able to stand next to Spike. Poor soul. At least it's true to the character.

Daniel annoys me more than Wheelie, not because of the knees, but because of the faceless silver nipple he has for a head. I don't know why that disquiets me so on these toys.

Surely for a Sunbow-accurate Slag you _have_ to have a "fake" chest as the robot mode chest looks nothing like the dino mode lower jaw in the cartoon? The latter is coloured gold, but there's no trace of gold on the former, even at the sides.
I mean, I would _definitely_ prefer a toy-inspired Slag, but given the parameters of this toyline I can't really fault the designers on this aspect.

They successfully did it in Kingdom Dinobot. They pulled off a chest that's impossible to do without faking it, without completely faking it. And that's half the size of Slag here for almost half the cost.
The Kingdom beast wars have set incredible new standards.

Not sure the complexity would be worth it in this case though - I mean, to get from a fully gold lower jaw to the silver chest area, both shaped as they are in the cartoon it's going to be fiddly and possibly fragile, surely - and just might not end up looking good, failing to please in either mode! I think it was probably either this or make the lower jaw silver/grey. And I'm not a big Sunbow fan, so I can't say what would please that crowd more.

Urgh Slag is *my* Dinobot (second gifted boxed G1 tranformer in '85). I still like the Combiner Wars toy although I miss the wings, and the colours are right. Guess it's gonna come down to how the wallet is feeling.

Shame. I liked pulling down the jaw on Slag to reveal the face. Also like the way Terrasaur does that flip over when he transforms. Can't have all three (robot, alt & transformation accuracy) I guess.
Well, we could if the cartoons drew them properly to begin with...

I'm kinda interested in how some of the pictures have the Dino legs on the outside of the robot legs and some tucked away like Grimlock's tail. Screen/toy accuracy options!

Well, we could if the cartoons drew them properly to begin with... But we know what happens if they do that... We get Netflix WfC.

"If they drew them properly in the first place" is Animated
WfC is what you get if they can't draw them at all, and just flat out animate renders of the toys instead.

As Daniel has no face, I wonder whether that's a prototype, and the final product might have both a face and knee joints.

Well, we could if the cartoons drew them properly to begin with... But we know what happens if they do that... We get Netflix WfC. They could be drawn in a super angled anime style with Rowan Atkinson facial expressions in WFC but would still come across as dull as a dying Eeoyre thanks to the voice acting and direction. Beast Wars series 2 got it right.

Seriously, what is the point of that Daniel?
I can understand Wheelie, because it happened in the Movie. But at no point did Daniel sit on Slag.
Unless I missed something?
Has anyone ever sat on Slag? Apart from that cowboy in the comic that time.
A flat Quintesson Prosecutor would make more sense.

Has anyone ever sat on Slag? Apart from that cowboy in the comic that time. Wheelie sits on Sludge's head at one point and I think Daniel (sans exosuit) sits on Arcee's shoulder. SS96 COWBOY WHEN HASBRO? Actually, is Siege Jetfire the right scale to wrestle Slag?

Daniel and Wheelie both would have better been served as a deluxe twopack. Wheelie a core class sized fully transforming figure, with Daniel as a Battlemaster sized transforming figure, only more complex than the typical battlemaster. I think the extra five dollars would cover both of them being a bit more complex than other similarly scaled scaled figures.
