Looks like the '86 Grimlock is indeed from the animated movie and Studio Series is delving into that next year - with a listing for '86 Gnaw found recently!

Thinking about this rumoured '86 movie line and just had a sad thought: Still not going to get a decent Snarl out of it.

Poor Snarl's gonna get ditched, again.

Ok, hang on, hang on a minute here.
These are new molds? Not repaints?
A line of new molds celebrating The Movie?
That might give us 'proper' CHUGy Dinobots? (Not 'proper' in a dinosaur loving CJ way, but 'proper' as in fitting in style and, crucially, size-wise with Generations.)
BUT IT WON'T THOUGH WILL IT?!?! They won't complete them... And we'll get hurt, I'll get hurt, again...
But damnit, as an '84er, I've never been able to forget about 'proper' CHUGy Dinobots. The unscratchable itch. But I'd given up on that dream ages ago.
Fucking hell... There'll be as rare and hard to find as unicorn shit... or Unicron shit...

There will never be a proper Snarl.

I'm like...83% sure you've commented on these before.
Grimlock is rumored to be a Grimlock/Wheelie twopack. There's also a leader Slag listed too. No other dinobots are rumored.
The Cyclonus we saw is presumed part of this line. There's another Hotrod, too.

I thought there were some others too, but can't find them when I checked. IIRC a SS BB was listed at the same time which I thought looked suspiciously like it might be 86 series

Wonder if he has bags to put it in, and then hang it on the tail of a passing comet?
If Unicron's mission is to devour everything in the universe, I guess he'd have to go back and scoop it up again later.

I was expecting a bit more out of wheelie than being a minicon.

Wheelie could not be more worthless. They may as well have chucked him in the judge pit set.

From the glimpse I got of him, I'm assuming he doesn't transform?

Nope. He's a barely articulated minifigure. His slingshot arm looks like it has a balljointed shoulder, but his left arm is preposed to draw the string. Even it it had a balljoint shoulder it couldn't move anyway. Legs look like they have enough articulation to be seated on grimlock's neck. He's not even a good looking minifigure like the quint pit minifigs are.

I've got two TR Wheelies already so another one that stays in the box isn't a hardship

Wheelie would be much better served by being a cliffjumper styled deluxe, with a transforming exosuited Daniel minifigure.

Preordered at Star Action Figures - so much less hassle than ID

Just Grimlock. Or Grimlock, Grimlock's gun and Wheelie.

I think I'm going to have to get Grimlock....
How easily available is this 'Studio Series'?
And are we really going to get the other Dinobots? I know poor Snarl is doubt full.
If I go down this Dino-road, I need to know I won't be hurt...
When I stand out muy so very nearly complete '84ers, there is a big Dinobot shaped hole.... Gods help me...

All five dinos as Leaders seems extremely unlikely to me.
I know Studio Series hasn't followed the usual size/release format of Generations, they tend to do waves of four with random assortments of size depending on what's needed for the character don't they? but five leaders is a massive investment for a line that doesn't seem to use remoulds/repaints to sustain itself.

Slag and Sludge should be able to share a mould. More extreme, but getting Snarl from Grimlock isnt a huge leap. Just flip Grimlocks around and make his tail into Snarls head and suddenly they share quite a lot of transformation.

It does look like a really nice Grimlock figure, and the gold is more gold than I expected, so far it looked like straight yellow in everything I’d seen.
I’d trade that dreadful-looking Wheelie for a sword though.

Yep that Grimlock is on The List. Superb.
Wheelie wont even come out of the packaging.
