Not so much.... with the Bum and umper there is something of an overlap
The only place Bumper has a problem is up against Bumblejumper where it looks like the middle of the word has been pulled out

Calling it Bumblejumper makes it sound like the toys is a cut n shut! Or rather that Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have a combined mode, like Slamdance, Squawkbox or Dreadwing. Then again, Thunderwing isn't formed from Thundercracker and Seawing, and Overload isn't formed from Overbite and Wideload. Martin

Bumblejumper is also 50% from Bumblebee and 50% from Cliffjumper. It does mean something, it means 'chap who looks quite like Cliffjumper but is coloured like Bumblebee'. Admittedly the name Bumblejumper would be equally suitable for Hubcap and yellow Cliffjumper. Humblejumper.

Yeah, we had more yellow Cliffjumpers around when I were a lad. Wish I still had them. I think they annoyed me for being 'wrong' as a little 'un, so less care was taken with them. Oh, foolish, foolish me! I think I like the aesthetic of the Penny Racer Minibots the best, and I really would like to pick up those variants if they weren't silly money. Never saw a BumbleBumper in the plastic as a kid. I was well into early adulthood before I encountered one. Yellow was the colour of the first Cliffjumper I saw, and the first one I bought (the same one for the record). I didn't see any Cliffjumpers for quite some time after that. It wasn't until I saw the comic and cartoon some time later that I discovered that Cliffjumpers also came in red. For me I tend to think of Cliffjumper as being yellow as a normal thing (forty years of one's Cliffjumper being yellow will do that to a mind), and always get a subtle sense of wrongness when I see one in red. Ironically I have this urge to classify it as a Choro-Q/Penny Racer instead of a Transformer because it is the "wrong" colour... Karl

You see? There he goes! There he goes with the sexual deviancy! Everyone's having a nice silly time of it saying the word 'bum' and Big Perv Phil has to immediately drop it down to sleazy hitherto unseen levels! Monstrous!

I always thought Bumblejumper was a lame name, and I like Bumper instead. I hope that settles things.

What is there to say about this toy that hasn’t been said? The original, and arguably the best. Not just the best Optimus Prime, but the best Transformer toy of all time. Still. It’s a truck! It’s a robot! It’s a battle station! With a little launching car! It has everything.
My first encounter with this toy (and I know I’ve said this before, but whatever) was in the waiting room at a doctor’s surgery (don’t remember who we were there for), and another kid had their Optimus Prime with them and was playing with it. I saw it, was astounded, hooked, and had to have one. And fortunately enough I got one, too, a few months later on my 7th birthday. And I still have it. (Albeit with a spare arm from another junker.)
As a character, it’s really Peter Cullen’s performance that’s solidified his classic status. Sure, the Marvel UK stories give him some complexity, but it’s all built upon that incredible, “strong enough to be kind”, voice performance. An accident, I’m sure, since all Hasbro wanted to do was sell some toys, but he’s ended up being one of the greatest characters of all time.
I know I’m pretty basic with him being my favourite TF, but there’s just so much great stuff that went into the very first version of this character, both toy and in fiction, that it’s hard for him to not be.

That annoyed me: now fixed at source :-) Who here has a Bumper? I got one from ebay 10-15 years ago, bit scruffy, but I think it was under £50 so not complaining. Came with a Cliffjumper backing card, thouigh obviously no way I can be sure thats what it came on. I prefer Bumblejumper to Bumper. Probably mostly because its what I heard first. But also it amuses me. Bumper does not. Its a bit dull.

What Llama said.
Except. Mum came home one lunch time and told me she had been in the local toy shop and was told that a new Optimus Prime was coming out. I was very excited. It was the Powermaster and I was very happy to get it some time later.
I did already have Ultra Magnus and thanks to the inside of the ladybird covers I knew that Optimus was the same mould, but I didnt actually get or even see in person an original Prime till the classics release (true of most of the classics actually).
Then, I cant remember the order, I either got G2 Prime for Christmas 93 and the following year around Christmas I found a boxed G1 Prime at a second hand toyshop or vice versa. Or possibly I got both the same year either 93 or 94.
