oh no, genuinely sad to hear that! The Happiness Patrol is a long time favourite, and fresh in my mind again after reading the excellent Target novelisation for the first time last year. It's such an unjustly treated story.

The Happiness Patrol was one of the Target books that survived my childhood.
Great book and a great story, the Kandy Man was terrifying and sadly used by ill-informed people to kick what is one of the stronger stories of the McCoy era.

The Seeds of Doom is the only one that survived my childhood. I vividly remember my Grandma buying it for me from Dillons in Nottingham one Saturday morning and then reading the whole thing at her bungalow that afternoon. She passed away a couple of weeks ago and that day was the first memory that came to the surface, she really loved Doctor Who and encouraged me to be a fan.

I've just realised I haven't had this month's DWM. I see it was due out two weeks ago. Hmm.

It's a good one too. Mission to the Unknown remake, Pat Gorman and Richard Gregory tributes.

Anyone else sub to DWM? The most recent issue (Clothing Special) said my sub runs out "soon" (but does not specify when) but when I log on to panini subs it shows:
'Doctor Who Magazine (with Specials) Order number: xxxxxx Status: Live Expires: You have a continuous order'
I am confused. Does it auto-renew or do I need to do something?

Mine's a direct debit, it just goes on and on.
That said, not had this month's ish yet, although Panini have dispatched a replacement now.

I mostly enjoyed the DWM Costume Design Special. An often overlooked area and I did learn new things. Sadly marred by some 'It was all shit' editorialising when covering the 80's to the TVM. Other areas are treated more even handedly. I had thought we had moved past bashing certain eras in official publications.
However, I did quite enjoy the Special overall. I did not know 2000AD artist Patrick Goddard has done design work on the show!

Intrigued to know what a 'rare' track from Evil of the Daleks is.

However both wh smiths I checked are not selling their own 'exclusive' edition of DWM so pennies saved!

Reports on Gallifrey Base that longstanding DWM contributer Dominic May (of the staple 'Beyond the TARDIS' feature) has apparently passed away this week. -Ralph

DWM is putting out a 12th Doc Special on the 13th. Not included in subs so I will have to hunt for it in the wild!

What, you mean it's a special in addition to the usual ongoing specials? (like the last clothing one)

Yes. It's an additional one covering production of 12th's first four episodes.

Interesting. So the 'Companion' series that used to be part of the main specials line, which seemed to have been replaced with the 'Yearbook' specials when Capaldi started, is now returning as it's own line, alongside the existing specials and the bookazines.
And given this covers four episodes of series eight, it'll be a loooong time until they get it up to date.
Hmm. I think I'm specialled out with Who. I still buy the bookazines even though I don't read them. At this rate DWM will be publishing as many specials as regular issues.

I read in the Panini email newsletter that the 12th Doc special is a revised reprint of the Complete History partwork. So probably no need to own both.

I wish DWM had never changed from A4 in the first place. I've yet to find a box that properly fits that size for storage. Same for the old 2000ADs.

No, I mean the wider, shorter size it has been. It's similar to the newsprint era 2000AD. No one makes solid storage boxes that fit that size properly.

I bought 5 cardboard storage boxes from A Place in Space a few years ago for this purpose. The boxes are shipped as flatpacks that you put together yourself and are fantastic for holding wider-than-A4 mags. The cardboard is appropriately thick and holds together well, allowing them to be stacked without crushing the box at the bottom. Alternatively, if you work in an office that receives a large amount of A4 printer paper, you may be able to use the empty shipping boxes for free. My previous workplace would get through 2-3 boxes of paper each month and recycle the empty cardboard boxes, but had no objection to people taking them home. If the box has sufficient height (some suppliers provide more paper than others) you can store the DW mags vertically with the spine facing upwards. Printer paper boxes are less sturdy than the ones mentioned above, requiring sellotape to hold them together over time, but could be a cheap/free option.

Interesting. I knew there were comic boxes the right size to store back to front, but I want something that does bottom to top so comics don't need boards to keep them straight. The copier paper box is an interesting idea.
