Pinwig's attention is drawn to the second column of page 61 of the DWM 2024 Yearbook. -Ralph Is that a new special? I don't think I've had a DWM special since the expensive twenty quid one.

Just been checking my list. I see the usual special release schedule got knocked out of sync by the anniversary and that £20 one. The 2024 yearbook is a month late and we missed a chronicles slot that the 200 moments one took. So we should be due a chronicles next month, but I don't think we've have solicits for one?

We haven't but the Yearbook mentions that there's something Richard Franklin in the 1971 chronicles so it's thought that's next

I don't think those bookazines will ever die. We're fated to fill shelves with them forever. In truth, the 200 moments book took the last slot. I expect service will resume with an announcement in the next Gallifrey Guardian. March release instead of Feb as usual.

I didn't bother with the previous bookazines but the Chronicles series is lovely. Looking forward to the 1993 edition in due course.

Found the 1971 book in Smiths this morning. Quite a surprise; I didn't realise it was out. Unusual for mine to have the Chronicles books in straight away.

That'll be a nice collection. Might be nice to have them all together. I've been meaning to get the Tom omnibus for that reason. Never letting the originals go!

I skipped on the Tom omnibus as...those old strips aren't very good. Sorry!
The golden era doesn't begin until the 5th Doctor's strip run.
6th and 8th Docs had the best runs overall. So far.

Aren't very good? How very dare you. Try telling Rusty Davies that, he turned one into a TV show you know!
It's true the strip became a little more cerebral when the fifth came in, but Tom's stories are classic comic fun.

He took a slight and crap comic story that could barely sustain its length and turned it into a slight and crap TV story that could barely sustain its length. Not even Rusty T is immune from Nostalgia Goggles. The novelisation is surprisingly decent though! -Ralph

I don't mind the early Wagner/Mills Who stuff, but it definitely isn't until the 5th Doctor stuff that it really picks up pace.
Agree with Ralph, the 6th and 8th Doctor runs are the peak.
7 suffers from the same thing the tv show did, played like a buffoon, and then course corrects when the Cartmel influence really picks up, but the lead time meant that's an age in monthly books.
9 was good, but brief, but no out and out bangers to speak of.
10 was grand, I think when Dan McDaid took over the writing it really hit it's stride.
11 - solid, but I don't think ever had a really cracking story, 12 - same really 13 - a mixed bag, and I didn't read a huge amount as it coincided with the biggest drop in quality for DWM 14 - like 9 a nice contained run, doing one single story was a fun move and really enjoyable 15 - we shall see...

It was not crap! And neither is the comic!
Next you'll be saying The Iron Legion is no good either.
Those three new target books are due here today. I think. They will be read forthwith.

I am disappointed.
However, the 14th Doc Targets did arrive today. Signed editions from Forbidden Planet proved cheaper than Amazon.

I'm just so glad Gary Russell was assigned The Star Beast rather than The Giggle.
Just imagine. It would have been Divided Loyalties II.

Hmm. I thought the editorial changes in DWM were going well but I just realised the in-depth previews of the Blu-ray sets have been dropped. No disc by disc breakdown for season 15. I find those MASSIVELY useful for identifying what the new extras are. I use a copy as a tick list while watching.
Disappointing. Unless Ralph can do what he did before when Phil thought the fact of fiction section was missing and pointed out it actually wasn't. Save me Ralph!

I see there's a letter in DWM this month complaining about the lack of a Blu-ray index for Season 15. I'm not alone! I must write to endorse this point.
I've been quite happy with the content changes so far under the new management, but over the last couple of issues there have been some really random articles. I seem to be skipping more than usual.
