It's been a long time since we last had an artwork cover.

It is indeed - and that is spot on to my memories of old RT covers from back in the day. Marvellous stuff.

It's quite surprising. Spilsbury has previously stated that artwork covers went away because they sell less than photographic ones and cost more to produce so they are doubly ineffective in selling the magazine.
I couldn't give a toss about the Radio Times though. It's always been a dreadful magazine. I will never understand it's hold over The Fandom.

It's BBC's magazine and thus The Doctor could only appear in its pages for most of it's runtime. They only agreed to let the TV Times cover BBC programmes and vice versa in the early 90's, I think.

New DWM's here. Nothing about the recovered episodes in the issue but read the small print on page 4 and the next month ad on page 97. They knew.

New DWM & DWM special out today. Picked up DWM but could not give a flying fuck about the RT homage pish. Further anger was found by far too many pages devoted to The Abominable Snowman! -Ralph

Argh! Next week's DWM comes in two covers, but which one to get? Terror of the Zygons/Galaxy 4 or The Seeds of Doom/The Underwater Menace? I can't stand the confusion in my mind. -Ralph

Zygons cover, as I always liked the rather snotty and officious facial expressions of those chaps.

Seeds of Doom version for me I think. Much as I love the Zygons I like the Krynoids more...
The Doctor's purported distate for violence is, in my opinion a lot less clear-cut than a lot of fandom thinks. There are a number of times that it feels like he doesn't do violence because he has other people to do it for him (Leela, Lethbridge-Stewart, Ace to a degree). Indeed the Second Doctor is quite happy to knowingly attempt the genocide of the Dalek species, and ColDoc actually is directly responsible in the case of the Vervoids. I think it is more that the Doctor, on average, leans towards violence being a last-resort - if he can see another option then he'll take it but in extremis he is quite capable of it without too many qualms. (Arguably the only Doctors who actually make a big deal of being against violence are the fifth and the tenth... and one could suggest that the fact that this is somewhat hypocritical is part of the point of the latter doing so)

Hartnell DWM cover. Excellent, this pleases me.
As to NaTEL, I am still swithering but I may plump for the omnibus for reading down on the omnitrain to BiG.

Grabbed the new DWM, flipped straight to the article on The Twin Dilemma. Read the '6th Doctor costume is crap' sidebar and threw it across the room. FFS, will there ever be a feature on the 6th Doctor era by people who actually like it? Seems be the last remaining period of Who where the usual tired 'it was all shit/BEHIND THE SCENES CHAOS!!!!' opinions are trotted out time and again. Even Sylvester seems to get a pass these days! And about time too.

Not all of Colin Baker is $#!+ by any means. Attack of the Cybermen is great (ep 1 is near perfect iirc) and Revalation of the Daleks is superb.
Twin Dilema I have not seen recently but my abiding memory is Mum not being happy with Colin in the first episode - and I think I agree with her that strangling your companion isn't a good way to start - the kids being annoying and some dodgy costumes somewhere along the line. Been a few years since I last saw it but it, and the rest of the CB era is looming large on my personal viewing horizon.
The rest.....
I've disliked Varos for years, Sil really doesn't do it for me, and the tone had never agreed with me. But I don't think I've seen it since the DVD came out so I'll be aproaching that fresh.
Nothing wrong with Rani that changing that tree wouldn't fix.
Two Doctors .... again not seen for years
Timelash: It starts and ends with Paul Darrow
tToaTL: One will try to aproach with as open mind as possible but I was there as a fan and it's impossible to separate that from the $#!+ that's going on behind the scenes. But I know we are of differing minds here.
Currently watching Frotios. Distinct upsurge in green gunge flowing from slain aliens recently. I think Resurrection is what sparked the complaints going again though.....
