Two interesting points nicked from the IDW forum:

Heh! Now all we need is for the rest of the fanboys to actually stop buying shite out of mindless loyalty and we can ensure that McCarthy doesn't get to guide the IDW TF franchise for much longer.

Haven't really paid much attention to this series since the first issue and this preview is enough to put me off further.
I agree with the earlier comments though that this would have made a far better start to the series rather than being 1/3 of the way through. Might've held my interest a bit more then.

Good lord, this sounds worse with every issue. This was meant to be the series where I switched to Trade-waiting. Sod that then.

Seeing a lot of comments on the IDW forum saying "wow, this is a really good issue and the series has suddenly turned around!".
If true, this means Shane could do good writing and dialogue, which begs the question of why the hell he waited until ISSUE FOUR.

I'll take it with a pinch of salt, especially as the fanboys will wholeheartedly endorse the mediocre simply because so many TF comics over the years have been shite.

There is a certain 'support the brand' mentality in some message boards.

I can never get that. I will admit I am more tolerant with TF material than other comics but I've learned to quickly bin the shite stuff.

There is a certain 'support the brand' mentality in some message boards. -Ralph I have never supported brands. Burning emblems into things with heated metal implements seems excessively cruel, whether it be robots, fans or cattle..... On a slightly more serious note, I don't really get this "some Transformers is better than no Transformers even if it is bad" mindset. If I'm not enjoying something I'm not going to buy it just to support some nebulous product identity. I buy comics and watch television shows because I get enjoyment from them. If I'm not getting enjoyment from them then I stop buying or watching them. Doing anything else seems slightly irrational to me. Karl

Also, it's not like AHM is the only TF series being published! There are 3 publishers (IDW, Titan, Fun Pub) putting out loads of stuff on a regular basis!

Indeed. That is why I'm not too bothered about "All Hail Megatron". So I don't like this "Transformers" comic, doesn't matter because there will be another one along in due course and maybe that one will be more to my taste.
"Transformers" doesn't seem exactly in desperate need of propping up at the moment.

But "Transformers" will die and be Ruined ForeverTM if we don't all support and buy every single product with the "Transformers" brand on it.
Who will feed the Terrorcons? Won't somebody please think of the Terrorcons?

....and not much else.
We're now a third of the way through it's run, and this story continues to go nowhere.
What really got me though, was the final letter on the letters page. Chris H writes that the "..ation" series had stories that were "all over the place" and that "characterisation was subpar". While it's true that there were many different plot threads running through the ..ation stories and many different locations, I wouldn't say they were all over the place. At least more actually happened in a single issue written by Furman than has happened in four issues of AHM.
As to his second point about subpar characterisation, he mentions that he cared more about DJ from two panels than any other human character so far. Now, maybe I'm being cold when I say this, but DJ may as well have been named Cannon Fodder. I know that the little bit of dialogue we got was meant to elicit a sympathetic response to the character, but it just didn't come across to me. Verity and Hunter may have started out as a little annoying, but I actually grew to really like them as they matured through the story.
Going back to issue 3, the conversation between Megatron and Starscream was mildly entertaining. However, am I the only person who finds the use of the words brothers and men when referring to TF's annoying?
I've always been a bit of a completeist when it comes to collecting Transformers comics, but I've managed to cut back from trying to track down every cover and now just buy the ones I really like. This is the first time I've ever really considered dropping a title in the middle of a story The combination of "fan pleasing moments", no story advancement, repetition of things we've all seen so many times before and that it seems to be aimed at those who only ever watched the cartoon have completely put me off. I'm giving it just one more issue to change my mind.
Darn it, I'm being really negative again, sorry guys.

No apology necessary - from you that is Tony. I'd like to think Shane McCarthy owes us one.
It's just a sunbow based mini-series and as such the twats who can't see past it are furiously masturbating over it's existence and characterisation.

I can see a proper Sunbow Cartoon based Transformers comic series being quite charming and entertaining. Maybe as a "Evolutions" branded mini series or somesuch.

A fun series could indeed be derived from Sunbow, if done properly. Unfortunately, any attempts to ape Sunbow (Dreamwave, AHM) are just utter wank! -Ralph
