New DWM day. Editorial mentions plans to bring the comic strip back are afoot. A text story by Joy Wilkinson starts next issue in the meantime. Hooray. I don't think they've run text stories since the NA 'Brief Encounter' tie-ins?

Yup.
Would have liked to have seen Whittaker with another show runner.
I hope Chibbers does not fook up the regeneration story.

Always try to watch something Liz wouldn't appreciate while she is away and this time it's been some old B&W Doctor Who.
Since she's gone for two weeks this time I thought I'd take a crack at a longer story so watched The War Games at two episodes a night. Cracking. As I discovered when I blogged it that works much better in smaller chunks. Loved it.
Then I remembered that Britbox has a Wheel in Space recon not available (yet) on DVD. My goodness, pictures improve that no end, especially episode 1. It's not amazing but definitely much better. Saw the first two episodes last night, 3 (existing) and 4 (recon) tonight.

Yes, the Britbox WIS recon is pretty good. I would like a copy on shiny disc.

Reading the article in DWM about the animated Web episode is a bit worrying. It's being done by a new method, full 3D animation using motion capture. They make it pretty clear though this is an experiment that they thought they could get away with for one episode but wouldn't use it for a full story without the process being refined and improved. The screen caps in the article do not look very good. Probably a purchase for the extras package this one, including the new go at a telesnap recon.

I'm sticking with DVDs to complete the previous collection. I'm still thinking eventually these will get reissued in the season BR sets.

Quick question on the off chance someone here knows the answer...
In Smiths quickly earlier and spotted they had a Titan comic on sale - one of the Missy stories. But it was listed as issue 7, and I thought the Missy stuff was a four issue limited series? Or do Titan in the UK reprint them differently or something? Google hasn't helped as it keeps bringing up the limited series.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Titan have been putting out newsstand DW titles for several years now but it's long since become difficult to follow them due to random rebooting of volumes and an irregular schedule.

Annoyingly the telesnap recon of Ep3 is on Disc 2! Madness! Disc swapping is therefore required if you want to watch the whole story in one go including the telesnap recon.
Only the b&w animated version of Ep3 is on Disc 1 with the rest of the story. The animation is...fucking awful.
Colout version of Ep3 animation is on Disc 2.

Had one of those moments today. We visited Herne Bay to take the sea air and walking along the promenade I looked out to sea and suddenly realised I was staring straight at Red Sands fort on the horizon.
After that I kept a very careful eye on the seaweed floating in the water.

Reading Chibbers' production notes in DWM this month makes curious reading. On the one hand we have this new season of six episodes being an ongoing serial rather than individual stories, yet he says they had eight episodes in the can when the BBC asked for a special to end Jodie's run and tie into the BBC centenary next autumn. We were told ages back this new series would be eight, so it sounds likes two of the eight have been kept back as specials to drag out the season as far as autumn 2022 and the ninth and last episode.
So if this new series is a linked set of six that were already recorded and edited when the request for an additional special came, were eps 7 and 8 always supposed to be separate specials, or are they the last two parts of the linked story now being dressed up as specials because the plan changed?

Talking about VHS covers reminds me about something that has troubled me recently - if Who is getting a new producer for 2023, does that mean another design shift and enforcement of a new style guide on merchandise? It's bad enough having the 13th Doctor logo on the classic Blu-ray sets, but if they change that to another one before the run is complete I may internally combust with rage.
