The delegate for Planet Eden votes Yes. The colourised version is less than half of the content of the serial, and leaves out sufficient elements that it does not represent the story sufficiently to "count" in my view. As well as being a choppily-edited, tooth-grindingly rescored eldritch horror in its own right. A Hartnell run cannot be completed without the seven episodes of the proper version of the transmitted story. If you are happy with missing that bit of material then that is fine, but it doesn't count for the Achievement/Trophy... :-) Karl

Hmm. That's not ideal, is it. Later the same day I could cope with, but if two eps drop day one but only one is broadcast terrestrially, the TV broadcasts are always going to be a week behind their online release. Rubbish.

Yeah. I can totally understand why they're doing this - if they want a simultaneous worldwide release they *could* drop it online the same time that it airs on the BBC. EXCEPT that Who is famously all over the place depending on what sporting or other events the BBC is airing. So I can understand why they've gone for a fixed time slot. I just wish it wasn't midnight. Especially when they're dropping two episodes first time around - that's going to mean staying up until 0200hrs. 'Sake.
Of course, I "could just stay off the Internet", which is what many will helpfully suggest. Except spoilers for this will be all over everything - not just social media, but suggested Google articles, etc. I kind of need to speak to people and use t'Interwebs as part of my day. It didn't matter so much when we couldn't watch the recent specials live, that was just a couple of hours. But... yeah. I can see why they're doing it. But I don't like it.

I understand but take a dim view of it as the priority is so DW drops at a good evening slot for the US. Makes it look like Disney money counts for more than licencee fee payer's money. Anyway, it'll be midnight showings for me to avoid spoilers. For a UK show I have paid for. Fuck sakes. -Ralph

I'm not going to panic. I haven't found it difficult to avoid spoilers for things like Who; I didn't get to see Ruby Road until a while after the broadcast and knew nothing about it. I didn't see The Giggle live either. I'm so knackered from work on a Friday night that I won't keep awake through a midnight broadcast, so I reckon I'll make it a Saturday night iPlayer treat post zoom call and just stay a day behind.

With my social media activity basically collapsed down to my Blusky "following" field, and the folk I follow not being the type to engage in spoilers on the first day a thing is going to be available, and also the day being a Saturday and my therefore probably not on social media much until the evening anyway I am not going to worry much about this. I'll likely just take it as an opportunity to move Doctor Who back to a late-afternoon/teatime slot on the Saturday.
I'm not staying up till midnight to watch something just because that is when the BBC puts it on their streaming service. Any more than I am going to spend eight hours of my day watching a Netflix series just because Netflix considers me to have given up if I don't watch the whole series in 24hrs. If they put it on a streaming service then they are putting it on my schedule, not theirs as far as I am concerned.

I'd always be a week behind the hub discussion then. A day behind is fine, a week is going to be annoying.
