Seen the trailer for the new series a coupla times, and saw a bit on Breakfast News 'bout it. I'm sorry but I'm dreading Tate's involvement. Just dreading it. Hope I'm wrong.

Beware the BBC News Season 4 press launch feature. Gives away what the monsters in episode 1 look like. FFS.

Well I am tempted to see what the fan-spoodge will be like on OG given the end of the episode.
Enjoyable enough and you just know we will get adipose plush toys later in the year!

And the street that the hundreds of Adipose streamed out onto (with people standing on the island in the middle of the road) was Churchill Way. Last month my Scottish visitors walked past the end of it along the pedestrianised Queen Street (walking from right to left at the back of the picture). The end of Churchill Way is where I pointed out the first 'Blink' statues. I used a cash machine there yesterday. Next time I do, I'll be looking down at my feet to make sure there's no white wobbly things scurrying around. Next week's episode is filmed in Rome, not Cardiff. London, we can fake. Ancient Pompeii, less so. Martin

Very underwhelming episode, for me one of the weakest since the show returned. It just sort of...sat there...on the screen. Lots of nice little moments but the connective tissue felt very thin. The Adipose would have made for great villains and I kept waiting for them to be evil, but sadly they were not. The less said for the 'Doctor Who' acting from the actress playing Miss Foster the better!
Ah well, can't all be winners.
Tate was fine, didn't annoy me at all. The character of Donna's mother (Jackie Tyler mark II) infuriated the hell out of me, however, and needs to die quickly and horribly.
Next week's episode looks good, if strangely similar to one of the audio plays!

Actually, I expected the Adipose to turn evil and attack people, with resignation, thinking that was the Doctor Who formula. I was pleasantly surprised that they broke the cliche and showed that DW was capable of doing the unexpected on that score. I liked them - friendly, smiling, waving babies. No crying or nappy-changing or anything like that. If human babies had the personality of Adiposians, I might reconsider not wanting to have one. Oh, and Bernard Cribbins RULES. Martin

I thought it was ok. Nothing particularly special but competently done. The "just missing each other" joke went on a little too long in my opinion, but that is purely a matter of taste. It reminded me a little of last years opener in terms of its tone - modern day setting, fairly light touch , giving the new regular a bit of a chance to shine before bringing the two characters together...and lo and behold, next weeks episode is an adventure to a famous place in history (Pompei rather than the Globe Theater but you get the idea). It seems to be a formula that works for them so it makes sense to use it again.
Wasn't that fussed by Sarah Lancashire as Miss Foster to be honest. Although it did occur to me that her plan only actually became dangerous to peoples lives when the Doctor intervened. Before then it was a bit icky - using folk as unwitting surrogates is a bit unpleasanet - but not actually life-threatening. A good example of the Doctor making things worse before making them better perhaps.
It was watchable enough if nothing outstanding.

Watching the ep online, and I just noticed - Donna poking at the pendant causes Stacey to start sprouting Adipose, causing Miss Foster to activate "full parthogenesis" until she dies. Which means Donna got Stacey killed. Ouch. (The death itself is horrible stuff and would be scary - being killed by THINGS GROWING OUT OF YOU! - if the aliens weren't such cute happy little things) ...I want an Adipose. Also, the "dumdudmdudmdum" dramatic music after the spawning is making me shake my head and be bored rather than go "this is exciting!". See where constant music gets you?

Also, the Doctor/Donna miming bit is amusing and would be MORE amusing if they weren't doing it when Miss Foster is:
a) Explaining her plan. b) Blatantly going to KILL THAT JOURNALIST STONE DEAD c) Easily able to see them doing it and thus catch them.
which makes the Doctor and Donna look like a bunch of twats. They'd probably poke things with the All Spark Key.

The thing with those Adipose is that we've only seen them as kids. I have a feeling thier adult selves are a little less happy go lucky especially since they let that Foster woman go splat on the ground.

Before we were told they were kids I don't know but I thought we were getting the origin of Slabs from the last season opener - seeing the creation of an army to be used later in the season?

Seeing that they have filmed all 13 shows they dont need TDW with behind the scenes on set stuff - like they had for series 3. So all the Rose stuff they filmed all at the same time.
With TV Dr Who only - has the Doctor been in the same place/time at all more than once?

I have the Silurians boxset and it really annoys me how in Warriors Of The Deep, the Silurians look, sound and move completely differently than in their first story.
Luckily I found out one of the Virgin MAs said the Silurians are genetically divergent to the point of having multiple different phenotypes (presumably the Warriors type are the inferior one as they have no laser beams). Hurray for geeky continuity-filler!
