How big are the models? Even die-cast £10 seems steep. I saw it in Smiths. 1.99 for a decent-sized 5 inch Enterprise (if we are talking about the same thing). Regular price from issue 3 is £9.99. Just wondered what you got for that money, but they do sound bigger than I expected.

Pretty hefty, actually. Ralph's Enterprise D was about five inches long, I reckon.

Decided in the end not to subscribe. Don't have the space for all the models. I shall cherry pick. -Ralph

My pal at work showed me his 5" D. I touched it and everything. I was quite impressed, decent weight, good detailing. He has the large plastic modles of several of the Star Trek ships, and I preffer the smaller ones. I shall be cherry picking these also. I'm probably only after a movie 1701. Although the pic of Reliant looked nice, Excelsior to.

I currently believe that the Trek Micromachines was the best ship line to date, the Eaglemoss line might actually succeed it. It's certainly the first line that's been even remotely as ambicious and Micromachines were. (Most lines start off with huge promises and then gets killed like, two waves in, even if it's moderately succcessful).
I'll reserve my final judgement until I have them one in hand, but I'm excited. The problem with most lines is they almost always focus on the same handful of ships (E-D, Original, D7, E-NX, E-reboot, Romulan Warbird, Ferengi Marauder, Borg Cube. Then if you're lucky, extended to Runabouts, E-A, Excelsior, Reliant, Klingon BoP, and for some reason the Kazon ship turns up more than you'd think. More than the Voyager seems to) The Eaglemoss like is starting out this way too, and I hope it lasts long enough to get passed the same old ships everyone else does. The stuff that really excites me is what's coming in the future. The ones that excite me most are the Kelvin, the nebula-class, the romulan ship that came to the enterprise's aid in Nemesis, and the akira-class.

Fairly sure the series will mine as many ships as they can for as long as it sells.

I had a list on the board somewhere (This thread even? I can't find it) of all the ships they were supossedly making. And I think the Pastuer (Olympic) is on there somewhere. Also, pretty sure that they used to make the occasional daedalus class model kit, but they haven't done one in decades though. I think the Pasteur has replaced it, given a simular, but trendier and "cooler" design.

Never saw issue 1 :-(
But issue 2's refit Enterprise is the wrong colour in grey/blue. Should be white!

If the UK release has deliberately spread extras across 3 store exclusives and a commentary track you have to get from itunes like the US one I wont be bothering with it at all.
Remember when DVD extras were seen as a way to combat video piracy? it seems who ever is behind this release has forgotten.
Sadly I have very little desire to rewatch it anyway so not much of a hardship, especially as Ironman 3 packed with extras is out on Monday.

Every copy I saw had blemishes or scratches on it and no effort to add the panneling detail on the saucer. Poor, especially after the Enterprise D! -Ralph

Remember when DVD extras were seen as a way to combat video piracy? it seems who ever is behind this release has forgotten. . It is a strange sales tactic which has crept in within the last year or so. The market has still to understand that for many consumers, Blu-Ray, DVD and digital can co-exist alongside each other. The days of A New Format entirely replacing the previous format are gone. Spreading extras across different platforms is not attractive to customers! -Ralph

That sounds like an aweful tactic! Here, we get combo packs even that combines DVD, Bluray, AND digital download! I disagree that we're passed one format replacing another. We'll never be passed that, as that's how technology advances. Otherwise Best Buy would still have a record, 8-Track, and Cassette section. As well as Beta, Laserdisk, VHS, and HD-DVD. But I do agree that these three formats are not in direct competition with one another. Not everyone can, or wants to download movies and watch on tiny computer screens. Which means the superior DVD and Bluray options are wide open. Likewise, not everyone has an HDTV or a Bluray, which means DVD is still completely viable. However, I think the DVD/Bluray deal is seen more as Cassette to CD. Both were together for quite some time, as people couldn't upgrade to CDs. The combo packs allow me as a comsumer who can't afford a bluray now, to be able to have the movie in DVD form, and not have to repurchase it when I eventually do get a bluray. I think that's the way they look at it too. Also, some people have multiple formats operating all at once. A DVD in the kids room or car, Bluray in the family room.
So yeah, I agree. trying to make the formats compete is stupid.

It was the Refit-Enterprise that I was really looking forward to - it being my joint favourite Enterprise Starship. If it is that bad I might have to reluctantly give it a miss. Karl

So yeah, I agree. trying to make the formats compete is stupid. Just to clarify in the case of Star Trek In to Darkness it's not competition between different formats. The US Bluray has a basic set of extras then there are 3 store exclusive Blurays each with different additional extras. So the only way to get the full set of extras is to buy three otherwise identical copies of the Bluray. It's basically a step up from the store exclusive DVD cases and post cards, but much more annoying. And I believe at least one UK store has its own store exclusive which probably contains at least one of the US exclusive set of extras.

Oh and yeah even after buying all three versions if you want a commentary you still have to get it via itunes. Admittedly free, but what a hassle.

Hang on. To get all the extras you have to buy 4 versions of the blu-ray then go to Itunes for the commentary? That... I can't get my head around that.

I enjoyed it as a watchable bit of tosh at the cinema, despite the lack of creativity involved. Surprisingly enjoyable and passed a couple of hours just fine. I'm only ever likely to re-watch it in a cinema marathon or double-bill. I suspect the flaws would annoy me more in a home video format.

I thought it was fine whenever it just relaxed and let itself be a "Space Lazors in Space" in space movie. It's main moments of annoying me came when it kept wanting to evoke previous Star Trek films, as if it was insecure of its position. (If you are going to do a Star Trek reboot then I'd think you'd want to go as far as possible in a new direction as swiftly as possible in order to stake out your territory).
Not feeling any great desire to buy it though. Bit of a "see it, enjoy it and move on" movie.

Karl It frustrated me because the first one, which I really enjoyed, but even if you didnt, it had at least managed to put together a strong cast and with some hugely dodgy plotting managed to assemble the crew in their expected roles. All I wanted was for the series to kick on from there telling new stories. Not rehashing old ones. Despite that I probably would have picked it up as the last Trek had a really good set of extras including one of the more relisten-able commentaries. Oh well! Iron Man 3 should be here soon enough.

To add insult to your injury, I found that Walmart's exclusive release is a triple combo of DVD, Bluray, and Digital Download, Near as I can tell with most, if not all extras, and WITH an exclusive Hotwheels Dreadnaught.
Which makes it officially the first and only Hotwheels ship I've seen this year.

More ships listed on the Starships Collection thingy. Can't say I want them all as some don't interest me and others look low quality, but I might well end up going for 1/3 - 1/2 of them if I can find them.
