Watched 'Generations' on thingy player the other evening.
Not a bad film really. It's got its faults, but generally speaking it's alright. I like Picard and Kirk working together.

My biggest complaint is that apparently the internal lighting system on the Enterprise broke.

It what happens when your sets are designed for 4:3 SD telly rather than 16:9 35mm on a big screen and you haven't the money to redo them from scratch.

I said before the TNG movies were in aa bad place in the franchise, with Generations being in an impossible one.
As they didn't destroy the D in the series finalé, they had to work with the existing designs. We'd last seen this stuff just months prior. At the same time DS9 was running, and both shows pumped out special effects that were on par with the TOS movies. TMP and following movies picked up a story that we hadn't seen in ten years, from a show with no budget and very poor special effects. And even when TNG began, they were in a different time, with different characters. So the TOS movies were still offering something different.
But the TNG movies had DS9. Anything they did different needed to be reflected in the current TV series (Voyager being separated from Starfleet removed it from the equation, mostly), which then removed anything unique from the movies.
On top of that, the writer burnout didn't help.

Generations was a necessary film. Kirk and Picard had to meet, and what better place than on the big screen. It was an adequate handover film. First Contact I thought was superb. TNG gone BIG! But then... Then it really went off the boil...

Finished season 4 of Voyager on my watch-through. Blimey, that's a good season! Admittedly a couple of duds and noble failures, but some really high highs.
Seven is amazing, one of the most relatable characters I've seen in Trek. I feel sorry for Lien, but Seven has so much more going for her than Kes.
It also continues to do a good job on the two-parters, both of them this season were fun. Can't complain at seeing Klingons take down Nazis in occupied France!
I've massively warmed to this show, and it's great to see it getting some love across all of the current and upcoming series.
(and given the timeline for Living Witness, surely there's an opportunity for a backup Doctor appearance in Disco!)

Two things that surprises me-
When they were doing the HD enhanced TOS, I'm surprised they didn't do a DS9 cut for fun, that edits in the DS9 characters in the background
And I'm also surprised that by now they haven't done a special Ultimate Tribbles cut that edits both episodes together.

FIRST CONTACT is the BEST Star Trek film.
The Next Gen gone large. Great villains, great acting, decent plot generally speaking (good time travel story instead of shit time travel story). It's superb.
I wish Crusher had more to do. A rewrite of the "Blow up the damn ship" scene with Crusher doing some or all of Lilly's arguing with Picard would've worked and been a huge scene between the two characters. But I do really like Lilly.
Wrath, Search, Voyage and Undiscovered, even Motion, take a lot to beat- but I really do love First Contact.
Piggin' 25 years old though!

I agree with your overall view of the film, SP, but not about downsizing Lily's role. Much as I love the TNG cast, what made this film stand out was the three main guest stars, who only Patrick Stewart equalled in terms of screen presence.

You're not wrong, Grand Moff. The three guest stars were magnificent (oft Star Trek has great guest stars as we know). But Crusher doesn't have much to do at all, and there's not much character development-wise for the main cast, bar Picard and Data (Wolf has cool moments, but no real character development). Crusher challenging Picard about his perception of the Borg would have been a stunning moment between them (especially as they rescued him, but Picard was, arguably, a bit cold in his zapping of his own assimilated crew members), and given some more main cast development. In a way, it's surprising it -didn't- happen. TV series Crusher would've had a go.

"You want to destroy the ship and run away; you coward."
"Jean-Luc!"
"If you were any other man I would kill you where you stand!"
-best Star Trek moment ever.

I would respectfully disagree only because the entirety of The Voyage Home exists and is filled to the brim with the most memorable moments.

It's an okay two-part episode, but not as a major motion picture.
It's competent enough to not be terrible, but not good enough to be interesting. So, it's just boring.
And if it were a two-part episode, it wouldn't be one of the memorable ones. It'd sit beside Gambit.
