Goodness me! Look at all the vitriol in the comments underneath already!
I don't read the All Hail Megatrons so I have no idea who Drift is or what's been seen of him so far.
But I'm pretty sure IDW have already introduced "their own" Transformers such as Grindcore and all those porr buggers from Spotlight Hot Rod.

I like the spotlights (to varying degrees) so will give Spotlight: Poochie a go. I do worry it'll be like AHM though.

Seems a bit daft giving him a Spotlight before he's actually done anything or said anything - what happens if readers hate him?

Do you think they might? He looks (so) cool.

Meh!
Sorry, can't think of anything else to say to this "huge announcement". Shane McCarthy hass only written one decent issue so far, and that was Spotlight: Blurr. Actually, when I say decent, I mean just about bearable.

Drift is going to be a new toy as well, isn't he?
Maybe it's another of those Hasbro-requested Spotlights like Mirage and Ramjet.

Well IDW say he is going to be a toy, we've not heard anything official yet.

I didn't know those two were Hasbro requested - does explain a lot!

I liked Spotlight: Ramjet
I mean, it wasn't that amazing but it had its moments

I didn't know those two were Hasbro requested - does explain a lot! I completely made that up! But it would make sense since both Spotlights seemed quite peripheral to the main storyline, and the characters were released as Classics toys around about the same time.

I liked Spotlight: Ramjet I mean, it wasn't that amazing but it had its moments I enjoyed it. I thought it was quite amusing and a nice change of pace. I shall not be bothering with Spotlight: Self-Insertion Character. -Ralph

I'll probably give it a miss, but I do like that second cover, nice art there.

It would be such a shame if he dropped his swords.... Reach for the sword Drift, REACH FOR IT! You're so close, come on just a little more......a little more, QUICKLY NOW! He'll KILL YOU if you don't, your so CLOSE..........oh well, guess that'll teach him to be dramatic.

Nice piece of cover art there. Bold, and quite dramatic. It does a good job of saying "this comic is exciting". But I'm not sure it is doing anything to make me want to read about Drift. I'm not sure it is saying much about him as a character to pique my interest. I shall probably be skipping this in all likelihood.
Karl ("Spotlight Ramjet" was great fun, and benefited from not being linked into an ongoing story in another series - it made for a nice piece of standalone dottiness)

Hmm. Is it standard practice to do covers *before* scripts are even finished?

Yes - you just put a random robot who may or may not appear in the series on the cover in a "cool" pin-up pose. It seems to be standard practice for It's Dream Wave (IDW) now.

It's often done. I direct you to any cover of Ultimate Spider-man! See how many generic spider-man poses can be drawn!

I don't see how a drift racer can be much use in battle, except for SHOWING OFF! But that's Sunstreakers job, not his. oooo it ruffles mai feathers!
