Am thinking of breaking the habit of a lifetime and going with the bootleg one when its released around spring.
About £250 apparently, but at least I know it won't go yellow after 6 months and it'll be nice and mint and boxed.
If only Takara were smart enpugh to rerelease in small numbers at a high price. I'd gladly pay them £300+ for one' and they only have to sell a few thousand at that price for it to be worth a pretty penny to them

Loads of people wanted one and the super desirable godbomber armour if you remember, but once it was released they couldn't give them away!

I've noticed the price of the Hasbro reissue has started climbing. What is it about people not buying things when they are readily available?

Maybe they had one before, sold it and now regret it, or maybe they weren't fans then. Don't forget, the God Ginrai reissue came out NINE YEARS AGO. A lot has happened since then- three massively popular movies, and a couple of releases of the series GG starred in on DVD.

Yep, there has been plenty of time for there to be churn in the fanbase since GG came out.

We can honestly say now that we have seen Fortress Maximus tower over a human being.....

I could never afford one of these coz they are far too expensive especially with a double dip recession on! + the cost of p&p would be extortionate.
so instead I had to make do with 2 Kabayas & the 2 WST KOs as pictured on the Knockoffs & Poundland Specials thread

Strange how people are. I kind of feel exactly the same, I don't think I've transformed it from robot mode since the day I got it, but I just think of it as a 2 foot tall actionmaster and it makes me all the happier. ;D Back when I had a Fortress Maximus it is fair to say that Cruiser Mode was actually my favourite mode, rather than humanoid or City. Karl for the uninitiated...the cruiser mode is loosely derived from Macross's White Base!

So Fort Max arrived last week but as I was away for a couple of days I only had the chance to have a proper look at it yesterday. I'd read through the feedback on TFW and seen a long list of issues, even ignoring the fanboy whining there were some actual issues and I was feeling pretty good as I seem to have avoided most if not all the real ones. I think I have one piece of the chest/tower were a corner wasn't filled during the moulding process but it doesnt stand out. What does stand out, at least after I noticed it, is that the red spinning piece in the centre of the chest that the radar plugs into is not there. Argggh! Oh well.

Oh dear! Is there a scratch on the shoulder compartment as well, or is it the flash?

Just the flash. I think. There are a few minor bits in line with the usual qc issues of late, but on the whole im happy to have avoided. The worst problems like cerebros with two right legs.
As for. My missing piiece im lucky that I still have mmy spare junker brave max so provided I can dismantle both safely I can always swap it out.

Cerebros with two right legs is pretty serious. It's not like spare Max parts are cheap. I wonder if Takara is willing to supply replacement parts to someone who bought their item then had it shipped 8000 miles. Also they don't speak or read Japanese.

Don't all the spikes have their upper legs the wrong way round?
I'd check the elevator & launcher mechanism while you're at it Andy just in case.

I dont think its quite as bad as it seems, you know what forums are like, if you have a feedback thread for Fort Max the 10 people who have issues will post far more often than the 100 who have no issues.
A lot of it is people complaining that the plastic doesn't feel the same, softer and cheaper, possibly true, but ignores the fact a lot of TFs from back then have proved to be incredibly brittle, safety standards have improved, chemicals used then may now be banned or whatever else so the plastic may need to be different and just because it feels softer that may make it survive better in the long run. And quite possibly a brand new Fort Max in 88 would have felt just the same and has hardened or changed colour due to age. And some are complaining that joints are too stiff and some too loose.
But it does seem there are a few real issues, it seems almost all Spikes have had the thigh section fitted backwards, but it makes no difference to transforming it, its just a visual thing and I would never have noticed. Theres a similar issue with the little arm guns, but they can be taken out and put back correctly.
Apparently the first batch all had to be reopened to check for a mistake which was that not all the weapons had been packed in to some boxes so they had to double check them all.
really though the odd mistake has always made it through, I got Dreadwind and Darkwing for Christmas one year and it turned out a Dreadwind had been put in Darkwings box. The internet just makes it easier to make a bigger fuss.
I have contacted HLJ to see what they say. I'm not expecting much, theres no way I'm paying to return it and I cant imagine they would send out a replacement Max even if they had one. But we'll see.

The past is no stranger to issues. My original Snarl was missing the cap off its right leg when I got him for Christmas 1985. It slid right off as soon as I took it out of the box (I think- I was 3). My original Hoist was missing the pin that held his head and orange tow-frame on. My Action Master Snarl came in Kick-Off's card. Animated Snarl has a misassembled head so it doesn't fold up right when it transforms.
What is it about Snarl?

I seem to have had just the one, admittedly depriving me of Darkwing for the best part of 20 years, but I dont remember another issue till buying Unicron with its trigger happy chest missile of death. Had to take back two or three before getting one I felt was safe, even then I never left the missile in it.

oddly the six? I have bought second hand have not suffered from murderous rages, maybe the springs mellowed with age.
That aside the chest is still the biggest disappointment on that toy. I would have much preferred it to look like the 86 movies chest, but even if it didn't it's hard to imagine it could look much stupider than the sloping wedge we got.
