JB did not kiss anyone...not even a female...therefore this episode was a failure in my mind.
No, it was a decent enough episode. I'm not sure they know what to do with Ianto at all. Is he the wise-cracking one with a quip for every situation, or the get-his-hands-dirty bruiser or the team?
Is he both? Is that even...allowed?
Anyways, more JB kissing next week Beeb, thanks.

Caught up with the episode, 'Adam' this evening. That was excellent. If only Torchwood was of that quality every week!

Weeeell, enjoyed the episode very much, up 'till Owen was killed! Just when I was starting to like him! After watching Confidential, I don't think Owen's death had the 'shock' impact at all. More the 'Hu?' effect. You make a character likable, then kill him too soon into the series, if not too soon in Torchwood inself. Killing off someone in series three would have had the 'impact' they'd wanted. Oh well, maybe he'll be reanimated somehow.

I was sorely tempted to watch the next episode on BBC3, but I didn't because (a) I had a cold and didn't want to leave my bed (I only have terrestrial TV in bed), and (b) the Radio Times said that next week's wasn't so good.
The embarrassment! Killed by Jim out of Neighbours! (Yes, I watched it when I was 12.)
Torchwood Declassified seemed to be trying to sell Owen's death as being like Spooks, where any character can get bumped off at any time, but the parallel doesn't quite work because Torchwood couldn't resist putting in that scene where he agrees to go on a date with Tosh, which was just asking for it, plus there is the precedent of reanimation in this series.

IThe embarrassment! Killed by Jim out of Neighbours! (Yes, I watched it when I was 12.) Martin That's just what me and Mrs Shockprowl said! For shame! (I watched it too...) It was dramatic, and well performed, but the 'shock- anyone can die at any time' thing just didn't work for me.

Caught up with 'Reset' this evening. Pretty good. For the first time ever, I wanted to watch the next episode straight away, so caught it on the iplayer. It was pretty good.
Jings. Torchwood has at last turned into a pretty decent show. If only the spectre of Chibnall did not await at season's end.

Caught up with 'Reset' this evening. Pretty good. For the first time ever, I wanted to watch the next episode straight away, so caught it on the iplayer. It was pretty good. "Reset" was rather good I thought. Different in tone to either most of the first season of "Torchwood" - it felt to me almost like a hybrid of the tone they have been developing in Season Two and the slightly quirky tone of the very first episode. Was quite pleased with Freema's performance, I thought she was better here than she had been over in "Doctor Who" (unfair comparison mind you - she was given a broader range of stuff to do in "Reset" so she had more to work with). Yeah, decent stuff. Must admit I am curious to see what they do next, from the trailers it seems that they do want to play the consequences of what has happened. I haven't availed myself of the Iplayer option to be honest - I shall probably hang on and see it when it airs on Wednesday. It does feel as if "Torchwood" has found it's feet a little. It has been a lot more consistent tonally this year, almost as if they have finally settled on what kind of show they want to be making. I take it Chibnall is doing the Season closer then? On the bright side it will likely be the last script he does for Torchwood for a while - he is going to be fairly busy with "Law and Order: London" if he is taking the Big Chair on that. Karl

According to OG, Chibnall has done eps 11-13. Enjoy the good ones while we have them! He is the Chuck Austen of TV.

Can someone contact the BBC and tell them that no matter how much we see them, or how much animatronic guff you fit in their faces - Weevils will never be interesting.
Thanks.

I've been avoiding this thread lately (and the Who thread), to avoid potential spoilers, but I thought I'd pop in to ask about last night's episode (spoiler warning if you haven't watched it yet ), did the gauntlet attack scene remind anyone else of Red Dwarf's Polymorph? I couldn't help laughing.

A friend has lent me season 1 of this. Four episodes in and still watching so can't be too bad. I thought season 1 started very, very well up until episode 5, then went a bit crap for a couple of episodes, recovered for a stonking episode 8 then jumped into the shit faster than any other show I've ever seen other than, ohhhhhhhhhhh, between seasons 1 and 2 of Space:1999. Torchwood S1's idea of adult material didn't seem to go beyond: "I want to shag youuuuuuuuuuuu". Season 2 has been much better thought through so far (Chibnall pile of crap excepted). -Ralph

Interesting episdoe last night. Enjoyed it. Different way to bring back a 'dead' character. Thought Owen's portrail was very good. Made a hash of last weeks stuff in the behind the scene show where they were all like "oh, you never know when a character will leave the show..." etc. But good stuff. Series 2 is holding up for me.

Enjoyed it. Did think Owen might be possesed by the thing from the Satan Pit or it might be to do with his Weevilness from last year.

I thought I'd pop in to ask about last night's episode (spoiler warning if you haven't watched it yet ), did the gauntlet attack scene remind anyone else of Red Dwarf's Polymorph? I couldn't help laughing. I must admit I didn't pick up on that. My first thought was of an old horror flick that was called something like "The Crawling Claw". Didn't pick up on the "Evil Dead" aspect but I suspect that is in fact the intended reference. Spoilage below for those folk who haven't seen it yet. Bail out now. A bit of a mixed bag this episode I felt. Burn Gorman and John Barrowman did a really nice job with some of the scenes they had together (notably the one in the cell). But, I have to say I am dissapointed that Burn Gorman is still in the cast. Not because I dislike him as an actor - I think he's perfectly competent - but because it feels like a failure of courage on the part of the show. I really wish they had had the courage to take the decision to kill him and follow through with it, rather than simply pretend to kill him. It makes me less inclined to feel any engagement with future jeopardy for the characters when we have a precedent that says that they are unlikely to actually kill them off. I kept hoping right up to the closing minutes that Owen would "beat death", and having done that be able to "go" content that he has achieved something. I thought the cast did a fairly decent job with the script they were given though, and there were some very nice scenes in there. I just felt that as a whole it didn't really hang together terribly well for me. Karl

I thought it was the best episode the show has done by a country mile. Rather than just 'with one bound' he was free, it bothered to show the consequences. Tight and thrilling episode, with Gorman and Barrowman on top form. More like that please.

I'm not sure we're done with the consequences either. The comparison between him and Jack was great.
Weevils: Might be more interesting iof there was some hint they were going somewhere with them.
