I have an announcement to make.
I am off sausage. For good.
I thought I would try some gluten-free sausages from a well-known supermarket behemoth chain.
Last night, while chomping into some I noticed what I thought was rice. It made sense. With them being gluten-free, I figured they'd put rice in them to bulk them out.
Once I was half way through the last one I looked down and noticed that one of the grains of rice was moving. Now I'm no expert, but it seemed to me that these weren't grains of rice in the sausage but larvae of something.
So I'm off sausage now. It's official.

I think that would put anybody off sausages. The sad thing is that you hear about these kind of things all the time. As someone who used to work in a meat factory the cause of the problem is down to management cutting corners and substituting hygiene for quantity.

Good grief!
Make a complaint, G! And a GP appointment while you're at it.

I agree with Ralph on this. A GP appointment is a must because you don't know if you have already eaten any of these larvae (or whatever they are) and if so they could be potentially harmful to you.

Well I didn't want to go into too much detail, but I regurgitated most of it back up and out at the time.
If I feel iffy, I will get to the GP though.
And, yes, a complaint has been made, and a sealed specimen of The Sausage Thing has been submitted as well.

Hoo boy!
A very generous amount of vouchers has just arrived in the post from said supermarket behemoth chain along with a letter of apology and a promise to investigate further.
Of course, I can't bring myself to buy any food... however they do have a rather large toy section...

That's good news Graham. Lets just hope they do investigate further for other peoples sake.
Going back on topic - I'm having bangers and mash for lunch again today!!!

They've asked for the batch number, even though I have already sent them the packaging!
How I'm supposed to know that, I don't know.
In all fairness, I did tell them that I did not feel ill afterward. And they did ask I call immediately if I needed to seek medical attention.

I think by this point, seeing a sausage doctor would be the highest priority.

Possibly a good thing mind you. Dragon can be an acquired taste for those who didn't grow up on it. You have to like your food really, really hot for a start.....

Started making the effort to go to my local butchers. OH MY GOD. Seriously, the sausages the supermarket brand as "Finest", "Taste the Difference" or "Extra Special" really can not compare. Cheaper too. Also go late on a Saturday and you'll likely pick up some freebies if they're closed on a Sunday (although pickings may be slim)

That actually doesn't surprise me. At my old workplace we produced tons of this processed meat and some of the hams before being cooked looked revolting. The budget price hams that you can buy in the shops (they're usually the ones that are sliced up, put into packets and sold as the shops own brand ham) were literally dripping in brine after they had been processed by various machines although you wouldn't know that if you brought the same ham after it had reached the shop shelves.

I always wonder how machines can be 'activated' whilst a human being is inside them. I mean, when it's not supposed to be activated. You know what I mean!
Anyway, I had some nice garlic and herb sausages over the weekend, and fully intend to get some haggis sausages for camping next weekend.
