Possibly the first robot in history that can use the special fighting method known as Crotch Attack!

First toy you've reviewed that's made me think, "Ho! That looks half decent!" Shame that the forks don't lift and that he's prone to crack under pressure.
Not sure whether the size should really count against him - he looks more detailed and complex than Animated Prime, which should count for something on the price tag. And I never begrudged the fact that back in the day Hound was priced the same as Grapple and Inferno.
As someone who's been out of the TF toy collecting game for a decade and a half, what do Legend Class and Scout Class mean, please?
I take it Dirt Boss isn't in the film but is just cashing in on the hype. Typical Decepticon behaviour!

Well for me, at the time I bought it I was on a very low income so £8 was a lot of money. Hence why I was annoyed to find it to be pretty much the size of the £3.50 ones.
Legends are the smallest size class: about mini autobot size from back in the day. Next size up is scout class, about what basics used to be. Then deluxes, then voyagers, then leaders.

It doesn't look like too bad a toy but £8 is a bit much so I think I might get it when the price comes down.

Thanks for the size class run-down. Hmmm, now I'm curious as to how they got those names... Deluxe and Leader make sense, but Legend and Voyager sound rather random. Any story behind those?

Heee! I think I will give Dirt Boss a miss, but I did enjoy your review, and might regret passing on the opportunity to own a TF with 80s style shoulder pads!

I had a pretty dismal day yesterday, so watching that last night totally made it all better!
By the way, I don't "do the voice" when I write the back cover blurb, so you don't need to do it when you read it!

Ah, I see.
Do the Voyager class toys all look like they're going on a long journey?
Are the Legends called Legends because they are so small that the Leaders and Ultras wonder if they really exist outside their imagination?
Hey ho. Funny old world.

One day I shall have a Grandus of my own! He looks a lot smaller than I imagined, though.

Great review Ralph - will the fact you now own a Grandus tempt you back into getting a Star Convoy?

Nice review. Ever thought (I haven't read the whole thread, or watched all of your reviews, so forgive me if I'm repeating something discussed before) of editing in video or still images? And maybe even commenting on them as well? Having more stuff to cover might make the reviews tighter, although you might lose some of the spontaneity and adlibs.

Having more stuff to cover might make the reviews tighter, although you might lose some of the spontaneity and adlibs. Each review already takes around 3 hours to process, compile and upload as it is (longer for Longtooth, Action Master Thundercracker and Bulletbike due to subtitles) so more editing would add even more time on for what is just meant to be a bit of fun. The 10min upload limit for youtube keeps things fairly tight anyway. -Ralph

I was tutting in exasperation until more than 6 minutes in when at last you admitted he was crap, at which point I gave a sigh of relief and cried "Thank you!" Grandus is a plastic box that opens. Takara let the guy go who knew how to make one thing turn into another in a clever way, and replaced him with the guy who designed Fisher Price petrol station playsets. I'm sorry, but it had to be said! "It's a toy from 1991 so bear that in mind," you say. "Why should a toy from 1991 be so much crapper than a toy from 1984/5?" I cry. Oh well. Martin

I should have been clearer. In the context of the 1991 Battlestars line it fits in fine with the rest of the line (Star Convoy, for example, is very similar in terms of design, articulation and features). I agree it isn't a patch on the 1984/5 line.
Yeah, I know Grandus is a bit crap, but I love it. I'm not entirely sure why, I just do. I do hope it gets a re-issue one day.

I think Grandus is neat because
1 - He is rare (somehow that makes things more magical) 2 - He is big 3 - He is a base 4 - He is chunky. I like big chunky clicky things.

Grandus isn't a TF toy that I would want to have. He hasn't got too much play value and he's far too big and chunky to just stand around doing nothing.
