Has anyone seen this 'classic series'?
Someone at work is constantly telling me I'll love it, but he also loves Primeval.
Halp!

Afraid I haven't seen it.
There's a 2005 remake that features David Tennant and Mark Gatiss.

I'm aware of the original BBC serials and have seen clips. I'd quite like to pick up the DVD release at some point if it ever comes down in price.
I've seen the films several films and they are tops, especially Quatermass II. The BBC4 live version in 2005 was utter shite.

Brilliant series. Quatermass II includes Roger Delgado as a journalist. Phil lent me the DVD's he had of the early BBC stuff a while back. Great stuff. The films - I cannot share Ralph's opinion as Brian Donlevy is awful.

It's a shame so much of the first series is missing, but it's amazing it still exists at all. I had the VHS of and the Pit before the DVDs, and an off air recording of one episode of Quatermass II from the Lime Grove celebration weekend. When the DVD set came out I was over the moon.

I've seen it all, it's great. Though it's a bit misleading to call the original serial missing - they never recorded it past the first two episodes so there was nothing to lose, it went out live. That DVD set is really good and I seem to remember it was going cheap a while back

Quatermass and the Pit is brilliant. Six episodes that really doesn’t feel padded where a lot of six episode serials start to flag by the half-way mark.
The 70s Quatermass ITV Series is probably the most depressing piece of British TV SF until Torchwood: Children of Earth.

It does? He has not turned up then yet though I did spot Marco Polo in episode 1. Was the Canadian archeologist chap in The Macra Terror? His voice sounds similar to the 'ra ra ra' song chap in that.
I have seen and enjoyed the Hammer Quatermass films countless times. My first exposure was Quatermass II with the one true Quatermass: Brian Donlevy. I have seen 'The Pit' in that series in the cinema and it was fab.
Quatermass IV (the ITV series) was pretty dire. The 2005 BBC version of 'Experiment' wasn't that great either.
I haven't seen any of the original BBC serials until now. I shall keep going with 'The Pit' but more out of historical interest so far. The chap playing Quatermass is shite. The Hammer film version chap was much better but not as good as Brian Donlevy in 'II'.

Unless episode 4-6 get suddenly better it looks like Hammer cast solid gold from this steaming turd when they made their FABULOUS film version!
The actor playing TV Quatermass looks like he barely knows where he is! Andrew Keir was miles better in the film.
