After another pretty depressing weekend I've decided I need a new LIFE PLAN. At least I have a job, but it is incredibly boring and saps my will to live. I am really clever, I should be doing better. Its frustrating.
I am not sure what this LIFE PLAN will be though.
Really, I want to write. But breaking into that field always seems to be a Catch 22 situation.

Join with me and together we shall rule youtube, become filthy stinking rich via magical means off the back of reviewing old toys with low-res cameras and retire to the moon.
In other news, as suspected, I have an ear infection. This explains the general level of fatigue too. Got some meds. Should clear soon. Was annoyed to find hayfever starting today. Grrrrrrrrrr.

The health visitor reckons he's got something very odd and very subtle wrong with him as regards development that's hampered the speech and caused the other effects (biting, frustration). He's not apparently doing much imaginative play or mimicing which can be expected.
So off we go to the paediatrician for a look there.

Phil, I shall keep my fingers crossed for the little'un.
The Hayfever has indeed begun in earnest this week. I noticed it not long after I got into Edinburgh (I always seem to be worst in cities, or in proximity to Oilseed Rape). I found myself sneezing without any prior warning on and off this morning.
I never thought that the fact that our air-conditioning system provides ninety percent recycled air would prove to be a blessing, but I have a feeling that it might do so over the course of the summer....

All the best for little J, Phil. Sounds very stressfull.
After a week of Wedding 'stuff', essays, night shifts and small person with chicken pox, I'm enjoying a nice beer- whilst doing essays. Grrrrr. Just think, Shockprowl, soon you'll be injecting poeple, and tubing people and all manner of exciting thing! It's worth it!
I want a marvel select incredible hulk fig, but can't find one anywhere less than the price of a kidney.
Piglet's chicken pox improves, she's had it bad though, bless the little thing.
My best friend's wedding last wkend. Went really well. My best man speach went down a hoot. I included such tales as me and him fighting in the street outside my old house late one night with toy lightsabers, him betting he could drink a bug that had dropped into his beer, and the the amazing story of why he had a limp when he was my best man. Crazy mother. Good day!
Hope all my cyber chumbs have a good week!

Congratulations! (Though it's hardly the first time Cambridge has been rated number one for something... ) Still looking forward to visiting some at some point. Best wishes to all comrades tackling medical challenges at the mo. Things not going well for the Cardiff peregrines this year. They mated, then sat on the nest for a month, then just when we were expecting them to start bringing food for their chicks, they abandoned that nest completely and moved round the corner to a different nest. Now they don't seem to know what to do with themselves. Martin

Starting some warehouse work at the distribution centre for a certain well-know national chain of bike shops tomorrow. Certainly not what I was looking for (and the pay's pretty shitty) but it should tide me over until something better comes up, or I go on a killing spree. Whichever comes first.
Up at 6 though. Ouch...

Well done to you and your faculty Andrew! It always feels good to get a bit of recognition doesn't it?
Shame that the job isn't particularly great Mark, but as you say it will tide you over and the money will surely come in handy.
It is looking like being a bit hectic for me at the end of the week. We are due to get some of the floor joists in the office leveled, which means that on Friday my entire team will be without desks, roaming nomadically across the office without a home of our own. (Maybe I can make like Gengis and turn them into a conquering horde and we can annex the rest of the building......)

Cheers geezers. I'm pretty philosophical about doing whatever's needed for cash these days, I've done this kind of stuff before and it doesn't bother me - it's not really contributing to the ol' career trajectory, but to be honest I never really had one of those to start with.
Been re-watching the long versions of the LOTR trilogy over the last two weeks. Rounded it off with part 2 of '....King' this evening. I'm not ashamed to say I cried four times. Bring on 'The Lovely Bones' I say, that film is going to be incredible.

I realise that I work for a University that is guaranteed to be in the top two in Britain and the top three in the world but when I see that the institution I work for has come first in our specific field of knowledge i.e. education, that makes me feel good. I would hope that the work I do at the Faculty has in some way helped us to be number one.

I hope it wasn't representative of a normal day on the job. They should take health & safety seriously in this day and age. If not, you can sue their arses off. Nor to stop MPs being extravagant with their expenses. But both are still stealing in my book. Martin

Martin, congrats on the invitation to become a godfather.
At least, I assume that it is just the honour of becoming a godfather...and that the position of Godfather does not go with it..
Mark, sorry to hear about the nearly broken finger. I guess the bright spot is that it is nearly-broken rather than all-the-way broken.
I spent an interesting morning on a site visit to evaluate new software that we might be buying in our office. Which basically boiled down to my preferred method of learning - drinking tea and sitting quietly at the back absorbing information whilst other people ask questions..... We took our colleagues at the other organisation out to lunch afterwards (paid for by our organisation as well, which was kind of my boss) which was nice. The pizza I ate had rather a bit too much olive oil involved for my taste though. My own fault in one regard, as we have used that eaterie before and I should have remembered what I was getting into. But then, the rest of the menu pretty much involved egg pasta, which is a bit of a no-no for me so my choices were somewhat limited...

Oh sweet beloved life giving internet, do not leave me or forsake me again.
On Tuesday night it pissed it down in Swindon. Wednesday morning I woke up to find no Internet. So I phoned and complained. Two days of reseting equipment with no joy later and it comes on by itself. Do we think water got into a cable somewhere ?
