Liberator never looks as good as in that first shot...
And there's our old mate Harry Fielder as the Federation guard that Gan threatens to cut his hand off!

Would it surprise you to learn only one episode of S2 made it onto the compilation tapes? Guess which!
(there again they never put the two best eps of S3 on a compilation tape)
Keep going, only 7 episodes till cuddly Colin.

'Star One' was tops! A return to form for a very variable second run for Blake's 7.
Now to listen to 'Warship' to see what happened next!

That was the original idea, was it not?
Anyhow, I am almost at the end of the available eps in order on *coughtube*. I shall grab proper dvd's of s1-4 come the day of pay though buggered if I can find the list of where to get them from. In the meantime I have some audios to get through.

It has always been said that the intention was to the have the Federation face a Dalek Invasion of the galaxy. It would have had the advantage of being something no-one would have seen coming at the time. It would literally have been one program invading another.
On that note, it has occured to me that we never really got any answers as to who the Liberators original crew were fighting when they abandoned ship. The crew of the London seem to think that there are two fleets going at each other, but we never really get any confirmation of who the other side were. At least, as far as I can recall.

I think you can assume it's the invaders in Star One. It's the only other really powerful force we ever see.

I think you can assume it's the invaders in Star One. It's the only other really powerful force we ever see. But the invaders weren't able to get inside the galaxy in any force due to the defense grid. No, Phil. It can only have been that other great Terry Nation creation... THE VISIANS!

And another thing: Dudley Simpson's 'unique' musical style actually works well for Blake's 7. I've never cared for his atonal dirges which vaguely resemble tunes in Doctor Who. I've got used to it as aural wallpaper over the years but never liked it. Folk go on about Keffers, but at least he could bang out a proper tune from time to time. Yet, Dudley's strange system of banging out random noises of possibly four notes at a time actually helps the weird mad dystopian mood that underlines Blake's 7. I actually think proper melodies wouldn't work as well! Strange! -Ralph Did you spot the episode Dudley *didn't* do?

'Warship' sounds exactly like what I would have expected the 14th episode of season B to be like if I was listening to an off-air copy. Hard to believe it wasn't done on the telly. It picks up exactly one second after 'Star One'. The budgetary constraints are a bit obvious (you can almost hear the contortions the writer goes through not to have characters other than the regulars as there isn't money for them) but that sort of fits.

"All systems are functioning. Normally." As Zen would say. Excellent, another regular blog I look forward to following. The episode a week arrangement is a lot more Karl-friendly schedule, so it is quite possible I may be making comments a little more often than in previous blogs. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion. *grins toothily*
Rewatching the first few episodes of Series A has sent me down a parallel research track as to where else I saw Paul Darrow during the section of my childhood where I first saw Blakes 7. I think I have tracked it down, and the answer surprised me - t'was most likely "The Adventure Game"! He was in one of the first series shows, along with Lesley Judd (prior to her run as "The Mole"). The reality of Paul Darrow dealing with the various puzzles that befall travellers on Arg cannot be as bizarre as the mental image in my head. Still, it does make one of the S4 Blakes 7 episodes look ....different... when you know that.

Oh dear, 'Gambit' is a painful watch. Fucking dreadful! I assume this is the series' low point? -Ralph Phil too has reseen Gambit. On the one had I rejoice to see so many Who folk on screen. On the other...... who's idea was it to put Amelia Ducat on wearing that outfit? Or indeed any of the outfits in that show?
