Watched Barbarella on one of the movie channels last night (or maybe the night before I can't remember - I'll have to lay off the booze) and that one is so bad its actually good.

"Commando", a film that is quite simply beyond parody. No one could actually make "Commando" any more of a spoof of the action movie genre than it already is itself.

That is one of the "Incredible Hulk" TV movies, the one that was supposed to serve as a back-door pilot for a "Thor" TV series. Funnily enough the Thor series did not materialise.

We watched the Hulk/Thor movie a few weeks ago. Utter pap, but quite funny. I like how they played Thor as a big doofus.

My brother recently got the first two Incredible Hulk films on DVD (the aforementioned ones with Thor and Daredevil in) and he quite likes them. He says they ain't as good as the final film but they are better than the TV series.

Hulk/Thor is fun and camp. The one with Daredevil (Street Hawk) is pants.

My brother got the DVD of The Death of the Incredible Hulk today. He says that he'll get round to watching it tonight but I won't be joining him as I've never been a fan of the Hulk.

SHARK IN VENICE is a great bad direct-to-DVD effort. Hilariously awful.

Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning isn't great but has a much suitably cast actress as Daisy Duke.

King Kong V Godzilla. It's a hack-job, the Kong suit is rubbish and the less said about the blacked-up actors in the jungle the better. But it remains splendid tosh.

I sat the other half down last night and made him watch Event Horizon, which I have spoken previously of my admiration for. He agreed that it starts very well and completely falls apart under the weight of it's own silliness and 'borrowed' riffs. But it is good fun...

Tis a splendid bad film. Larry Fisbourne is hilariously bad. Still very watchable though.

Oh yeah, Event Horizon despite being a bad film, is very watchable indeed and somehow quite fun. The first time I saw when Sam Neill becomes a cast off from Hellraiser I had to do a double take.

I'll be honest, "Event Horizon" is a film whose charms are somewhat lost upon me. "King Kong versus Godzilla" however is a film I do adore. The American dubbed version is one of the worst pieces of hackery I have ever seen - with the major part of the human plot of the original excised entirely and replaced with underpaid Z-list US actors spouting nonsense in a single (very) cheap set. And yet somehow this does not detract from the film, merely making the dust-up between a giant moth-eaten ape and a radioactive dinosaur all the more joyful when it comes. (No, it isn't a terribly PC film when viewed with modern eyes, but then 1960's Japan wasn't an entirely PC country anyway....).
And whilst we're on the subject of movies with giant apes in them, I must advance "King Kong Escapes". It is in many ways a terrible, terrible film and yet it is one I can't help but love. Kong battling a giant robot duplicate of himself that has searchlights for eyes, heroic UN agents trying to expose the plotting of the evil Dr Who, the lovely Mie Hama as the good doctor's sinister agent. A final confrontation that has Kong and Mechani-Kong scale the Tokyo TV Tower which...er... is only marginally larger than they are..... One of those films that really shouldn't hold up when I view it today, but I can't help enjoying its madness.
