It was mentioned on the old Hub when the channel started to run the dubs of Headmasters and Masterforce. I don't know if it has been mentioned on the new Hub though.

I bunged on the subbed version of episode 1 last night. It was pretty watchable. Star Saber sounds very cool in Japanese. Never made it all the way through the show in sub-vision. It begins....er, last night.

Episode 2 heavily featured the Dinosaur Force and so was great. It becomes clear now why Deathsaurus spends most of the series on his chair. If I'd had my ass handed to me the way Star Saber beats the crap out of him in episode 1, I'd want to hide too.
I was surprised by Galaxy Shuttle's Japanese voice. Sounds like a drone. Unexpected.

I'm watching an episode a night before bed. It's soothing at that time of night. It's surprisingly watchable in Japanese-audio with subs. Sure, it's no Super-God Masterforce, but it's nowhere near as horrendous as Headmasters (gloriously entertaining with the dub, dull as ditchwater in the original language). Fun nonsense, though best watched an episode at a time. I like the animation and character designs. I really like Leozack and the Dino Force, though the Multiforce need to die. Not too bad. Shame the DVD's omit the comedy dub though: the show is golden when watched like that.

I wasn't aware there was a right way of thinking. Just that though it's nowhere near as entertaining as watched with the dub, Victory is nowhere near as bad with the original audio track as I thought it would be. It's watchable.

I do miss the dubs on the DVDs. I always fall asleep with the subtitles on. I had that problem with Headmasters, literally at one stage (hence why I no longer own that series). Victory is one of those shows that I don't mind on an episode by episode basis. Watched one episode at a time it is diverting and enjoyable, both with the slightly bizarre dub and in the original language. I do find though that it grates on me if I watch more than one episode at a time. It suffers from having a lot of fairly indistinct and interchangeable characters - especially on the Autobot side where you have the entire Multiforce having trouble assembling a complete personality between them. The Dino Force are the making of any episode they are in though - the very definition of "it's hard to get good help these days", but they try so hard it is difficult not to like them. Victory is a good show to dip in and out of, given its very episodic nature, much more attuned to the casual view than Masterforce is. We should lob an episode into the "Episode of the week" thread at some point perhaps. Karl |

I think the reason I like Victory so much is partially the fact the Destrons get the most characterisation and have more complex motivations than in previous incarnations. And partially the fact that there isn't a reliance on "super-powers" like in Masterforce.
That said, there is an awful lot of filler in Victory.

In tonight's episode, the Decepticons tried to steal a shuttle computer thingy while the Multiforce were useless twats. The Deceps make this show. Hellbat is splendid in the original audio.

The Deceps make this show. -Ralph I'm hard-pressed to remember any time that the Multiforce weren't comprehensively rubbish, and also frighteningly undersupplied with personality. I'd agree that the villians are the real making of Victory - the Cybertrons are a little too standard-issue heroic to be interesting, leaving the Destrons to have the entertaining personality flaws. I just watched episode 1 of the subs last night and will watch episode 2 tonight. I'm technically watching these interchangeably with the original Transformers episodes from season 1 from Sunbow - just to not go completely insane. I dunno. Transformers Victory so far is very very childish  I guess I've been spoiled by Graham's fanfiction (and not only) wherein Starsaber actually has an interesting personality and an interesting story arc. Although, I do like the Intergalactic Alliance angle and all of that... it's just... well... It seems at this stage that Transformers have little to do with being robots in disguise and more to do with being robots that are capable of changing between things to make life difficult for one another. There's really no reason why the Roadceaser force are cars. I mean... why are they cars? What use are their alternate modes? Heck - I half expected that when Braver got the order to go save the humans (before falling into the ditch) that he'd transform into car mode and zooooom over to the lunar base... But this was probably colored by my memory of that mold being Lightspeed in Europe and having a techspec which boasted that he basically does literally go the speed of light.... unlike a certain Technobot... Er... Anyways... I'm not really sure why Deathzaurus even bothered to show up - and he certainly did himself no favors by coming out even less competent than the Dinosaur Force in battling Star Saber. I mean... he actually did a worse job than the Dinoforce commander, who at least managed to charge or swomething... Well... he got Starsaber to jump around a bit. Deathzaurus was defeated by Starsaber activating a light show... Oh...and what a head ache that light show is...oh boy....ooooooooooohhh how my head hurts from the excessive use of flashing lights...all the time... I guess I find myself atracted to this series due to the character designs and the toys. And from what I recall, there are some episodes in the future worth watching... err...but... Well... Wow. Nobody except Ginrai to even remotely remind us of "G1"...even though this is still...G1... No...there was that junkion on that one planet. Nice to see the Junkions have apparently taken up Christianity - or at least modeled their lives after...a western... This is kind of the sort of series that begs you not to think too much about it, as it is clearly designed to sell cheap stubby robots to children. Pete |

Wheeljack will fix Ginrai and make him into Victory Leo right?
But that wouldn't surprise me. I mean, most of the "dead" characters from the movie appeared in Headmasters and onwards. I think they were just repaired. Or, it might have had something to do with them being alive during Scramble City (which explained the appearance of Magnus et company) and then the Movie coming out in Japan like two years after it was made?
Whatever.
In any event, I now watched episode 2 - it was better than episode 1, although only towards the beginning.
I'm not really sure what the destruction of that space station served?
I mean - it seems to me that it gave the Cybertrons the perfect excuse to "move" to Earth...
"Oh hey - our space station is destroyed, so let's go to earth."
By leaving the space station in tact, the Destrons would have compelled the Cybertrons to split their forces...although..I guess we don't..umm...actually know how many of either there are...
Also... why did Deathsaurus decide to plunder Earth's resources and conquer the galaxy like this was some novel idea?
Haven't the Decepticons been trying to do thi for years now?
What happened at the end of Masterforce? Where did everyone else go? Where's Rodimus Prime?
I mean... in Headmasters, Rodimus Prime went off to look for another world for the Cybertrons to live on...and...that's it? Never heard of him again?
Is he out there looking for another world along with the cast from season 3?
I kind of enjoyed the exchange between Liozak, Goyru and Deathzaurus - anything where the light show stops and there is some meek attempt at character building or contextual exchange is nice...
But...
I don't get it. Why do these Decepticons fear their Emperor when Deathzaurus himself was defeated by Starsaber? Why does Leozack, who aparnently has been charged with "taking care of" Starsaber and seems to think he can do it, therefore not conclude that he can first "take care of " Deathzaurus and become leader himself?
I do like the Dinosaur force, sleaping as their leader gives order and what not. That was fun.
And given that 'Flame' had a technician's bio in the European 'Motorvators' release, it's nice to see that his Japanese original counterpart is an engineer who builds things too...
Speaking of which...
Is it EVER explained what the Brainmaster power is? Who are those little robots? Do we actually ever see them? Does anybody care?
At least with Masterforce and Headmasters and even Pretenders there was an attempt to kind of create a story around the gimmick...
But....here...what gives?
I mean... what is the point of Brainmasters?
And Breastforce for that matter?
Is is just "transform, combine, power up" ?? And kind of like...that's what they do and there it is?

Wheeljack rebuilds Ginrai into Victory Leo along with Minerva and Perceptor The reason he's still alive is pretty simple, Japan didnt get the movie til after Victory came out, and on the storyboards for the movie, Smokescreen was in Wheeljack's place, next to Windcharger either that or.... ZOMBIES!!!!! (I have the DVD set of Victory and the other Takara stuff, so I've seen those episodes ) |

This has always bugged me - this rebuilding of Ginrai into Victory Leo because... what ever happens to the human Ginrai?
I mean - God Ginrai is just a transtector right? And God Bomber is the actual Cybertron.
So... when they rebuild him...what happens to God Bomber and Ginrai?
