What's a matte box? A square around the effect that hasn't been blended into the background properly?

I thought the new Tusken Raider sound and the Nooo in Jedi would be the tip of the iceberg, but it seems they are the whole story. The Noooo isn't that bad but don't really see why it took Lucas 28 years to decide 'you know, Vader should make some noise' at that bit. I can't believe they are still using the 1997 credits, I'm wondering if there's some kind of legal reason.

What's a matte box? A square around the effect that hasn't been blended into the background properly? Pretty much, although the shape can vary depending on the object that's been added to the shot. Here's an example. Watched the deleted scenes now. I won't spoil them but here are some thoughts... First off the deleted scenes that were on the prequel DVD's are not included and the ones that are here have not had the effects finished. Whilst the DVD scenes are missing, the AOTC scene that appeared on the official site some years ago is included. Not everything is here however and there's one scene from Sith missing from the disc that I wish had been included here (no, not that one): Yoda doing his crazy act. As for the other scene I was hoping to see (or maybe even put back in the film)... The Qui-Gon scene is included in animatic form with Ben Burtt (I assume) voicing. Disappointingly it is severely cut down: basically just Qui-Gon saying "hey I can teach you to merge with the force". Also... They had Liam Neeson come and do some episodes of Clone Wars but no one thought to have him record this? The highlight prequel-wise (despite only being an animatic) is an alternative Grevious/Obi-Wan chase/battle. Created under the supervision of some Speilberg fella it is great stuff! Too long to put in the film, some over the top moments and an end that isn't as good as the final version, but definitely worth a watch. The original trilogy scenes are better though quite scratched and some are in black and white. If you've read about deleted stuff over the years there's not much to surprise here, but it's good to finally see them. A lot of the stuff from the first film has been seen already via the Behind the Magic CD-ROM and the Holiday Special but it's in better quality here. Again there's some stuff that hasn't been included which is disappointing but what is here is interesting to watch.

Enjoyed the documentaries disc (apart from Star Wars Tech). Highlight has to be the Jedi creatures one from 1983 for no other reason than it has a singing Ackbar. I've since moved on to the original trilogy bonus disc (not looked at Jedi yet though) and it's a great collection of bits and bobs. Love looking at the various models and there's some good interviews scattered about covering various things. There was also a pleasant surprise... The animated segment from the Holiday Special is included. Hurrah!

That's cool. Though as long as I live I will never understand the urge to hide content on a product for sale.

At some point I would like five free mintes to put the discs in my bd player..... It's definitely worth doing, there's a lot of interest here. I got lucky that it coincided with my week off. Anyone else fed up of talking about matte boxes? I'll be quick then: the first film does still have some (mostly in the TIE's v Falcon battle). I noticed it whilst listening to the "Archival" audio commentary - which I thought was good as there's a lot of other voices chipping in. It's a bit strange when some of the comments are lifted from stuff elsewhere in this set but it worked well and I'll be checking out the others.

I came across this game a couple of months ago. I found it very enjoyable.
It also helped that at the time I was playing my way through Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga on the 360, so it more Lego based humour was very welcome.

Damn.
A quick look on Wikipedia reveals he was involved with more films than I realised. Was older than I thought too.

So The Phantom menace in 3D. A film everyone hates in a format not many care about. Genius.

I don't hate it. It's better than Attack Of The Clones. And this is my "Before Watchmen" moment... I know, no matter how much I bitch, I will go and see it, and all the rest again. So, to save time I'm going to try and not bitch.

Well, I'm five mins from a cinema and have an Unlimited Pass. I would give it a whirl in 2D to see how it has aged (not seen it since the original 1999 theatrical release) but if it's only in 3D I won't bother. I don't watch 3D films.

I'm in two minds about seeing it. I think Revenge of The Sith will work best in 3D, but if I wait until that one and find the 3D really good, will I think, I wish I'd gone to see the other two?
Plus, I watched the whole series just six months ago.

I actually like Phantom Menace except for young Anakin and the Mediclorian BS, I can live with Jar Jar. Darth Maul vs Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan is still the best choreographed Light Sabre duel.

Phantom Menace is in some ways the least worst of the prequels, but it's still pretty much an empty film based entirely on spectacle.
While I agree the end fight is nicely choreographed, it does feel too choreographed and overrehearsed, and at the end of the day it is two guys we barely know fighting a guy in black we have seen about twice in the film in a place we don't know.
As an audience member it is pretty hard to care about any of the characters in it.
Actually, the whole end is quite awful. We also have comedy CGI characters fighting robots, Natalie Portman fighting hilariously racist stereotype aliens and robots, and a little kid accidently pressing buttons in a ship HO HO HO.
Of course, once it got to clones vs robots, that was even worse! Then there was two sides who were absolute ciphers!!
