I also have spent the last two days watching Prodigy, but found the second half better than the first. I think mostly down to the characters developing over the season. I can see that - the depth of the character development is something I am enjoying, watching these kids grow into who they are becoming is absolutely great. I kind of feel like I am getting some of the same experience as Hologram Janeway watching them realise their potential. Oh, absolutely. The degree to which Mulgrew is getting more interesting material in Prodigy than she was previously given is very clear indeed. Karl

As the show was primarily aimed at kids who had never seen any previous Trek, the 'familar' (to us) elements are layered in slowly. I like that.
S1 did also get a full UK release in September 2023 on dvd and blu-ray.

Back on my Sentai kick, so I am starting this year off by beginning Kikai Sentai ZENKAIGER! Look, the show virtually demands that you put maximum effort into delivery of even the title. The lead character, Kaito's, motto and approach to life is "Full-power, full-throttle", and the show leans right into that attitude - and the rest of the core cast appears to be four robots from a Machine Universe, a robot parrot who functions as the brains of the outfit, and Kaito's grandmother - quite possibly the token sane person... It has a tumbling, breathless pacing even by the standards of Sentai shows being half-hour kids superhero shows, a clear love of slapstick humor that appeals to my inner eight-year old and a design ethos that mimics the sweet-shop that serves as home base - all the colours, as bright as possible. It is kind of like being assaulted by an energetic well-meaning packet of crayons, but in an endearing way.
Later this week I shall be properly starting my first Kamen Rider show of this year as well - Kamen Rider OOO (pronounced "Kamen Rider Ohs" as best I can tell), a show that appears to have a primary lead who is kind-hearted, well-meaning...and dumb as a bag of rocks... I think he and I are going to get on fine.

Watched a classic Scotch and Wry on Auld Year's Night - roughly about half would be fit for broadcast now. However, nobody plays a drunk better than the late, great Rikki Fulton.

Rewatched Escape From New York today. Still a cracking bit of work and again so obvious when they were designing Age of Apocalypse Cyclops that Snake Plissken was at the forefront of people's minds.

The Six Million Dollar Man has finally been Friebergered to death. What a hack.
The show took a while to get going and at the end Frieberger fucked it the way he fucked Star Trek and Space: 1999 but mid s2 through to end of s4 is mostly fun tosh and an enjoyable 'no brainer' watch.

Gladiators - daft fun, faithful to the original.
Legend - comes out to Simply The Best and plays up being an arrogant twat - cracking. Nitro - does a wee He-Man pose at the start - good lad. Viper - clearly this show's Wolf.
Dynamite - looked about 10, got absolutely rinced in the new game - Ring.
Faithful to the original, but missing a wee bit of a spice, peopple are too nice, also nobody has Shadow's crazy, coke-fuelled stare.
Worth watching though.

I enjoyed it, but less friendly banter and some "I WILL DESTROY YOU" banter instead would not go amiss.
The highlight was one of the contenders apparently losing their mind during a game and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Watched the first two episodes of a Netflix series called Obliterated.
A comedy drama, US special forces team in Vegas on a mission to find a nuke get it, go all out to celebrate and indulge in all the vices Vegas has to offer, only to find the nuke was a fake and they need to retrieve the genuine article in less than 9 hours, while off their faces.
Juvenile and crude, but entertaining, and Steel from Legends of Tomorrow is one of the leads.

Gave ITVX a whirl.
On the plus side: free to use.
On the downside: loads of ads. Far too many. Felt like Council TV. Big bloody banner across the end credits of shows. Get tae fuck.
Nolly episode 1: not good.
Won't be back.

Pokemon Consierge on Netflix is.... delightful.
Only word I can think of for it. Lovely old fashion stop motion and the Pokemon are all fluffly.
Theres only 4 twenty minute episodes so its quick chilled out watch.

Been watching Hazbin Hotel on Amazon Prime as I've been a fan since the indie pilot came out on Youtube. It's silly sinister dark serious fun, and I can't believe it's three quarters done already!
I don't know how they fit so much into each 20 minute episode, to be honest, but it does mean things move at a fair clip. My ADHD brain is fine with that though.

Prey has been ordered on Blu-ray. This will give me physical media for the three predator films that are needed, and which form a nice thematic trilogy:-
Predator, Predators, Prey.
The three essential movies in the "franchise"

"There is nothing wrong with Nostalgia. But it becomes a problem when it stops you moving forwards". I don't look to Sentai for life lessons, but that from Zenkaiger has surprising applicability. Not bad for a slightly hyperactive plastic robot parrot, Seccchan! Not bad at all.

You know, I'm very happy they put Old Hoop on iThingy. That was a Good Thing.
