Did you catch the bit about Scottish Independence in the social media episode?
Far better series than the last one.

Billy Ocean. If the Lord God has a voice, it'll sound like Billy Ocean. Have you heard him sing 'Suddenly'?!! Smooth as a cucumber.

For various reasons I have encountered a trio of somewhat eclectic new songs which I suspect I will end up snagging from one digital music store or another before too long. Firstly I finally dug up on Youtube and re-listened to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck", which I haven't heard properly in years (I've heard it every year at airshows, because "Team Huey" use it to accompany their UH-1 when it is displaying, but it isn't like you can hear it that well over the familiar slap-slap sound of a low-flying Huey). That led me, via a side-link, to the Joan Jet cover of their "Dirty Deeds, done dirt cheap" - rather like that, possibly more than the AC/DC version (I know, burn the Heretic, Purge the Unclean).
Finally I was playing through the videogame "Sleeping Dogs", and I ran into one of the two times the Rhythm-based Karaoke mini-game is required to complete a story mission. Having chosen "I fought the law" (felt it was appropriate for an undercover HKPD officer) the previous time I on a whim picked Pat Benatar's "Hit me with your best shot". Heh. Quite like it, for a variety of reasons, so it went onto the list to snag as well. After all, there is only so much you can rely on Youtube channels for this stuff - eventually you find you want to listen to it when you are out of WiFi range.
(And yes, my music collection is as dementedly eclectic already as this makes it sound, I can assure you)

Given that next years big Download festival headliners are KISS, I thought I'd better go check out the back catalogue.
Oh dear.

This could go either here or on the Pink Floyd thread because it's kind of both, but this year I shall mostly be listening to... my CD player. It's been mothballed since I moved into this house seven years ago and I realised recently that all of my music listening these days is either live at gigs, in the car driving home (usually very heavy and very loud), or through my PC speakers while I'm working. I'd totally lost the pleasure of just sitting in a room with a glass of wine and listening to music through good speakers.
So when I heard about The Endless River I thought this was a significant enough moment to rig the old stereo back up and do it properly. I am so glad I did. I feel like I've just discovered a new hobby. I found a neat space to fit my old Denon CD Tuner in the living room, fixed up the speakers either side of the fireplace and just now kicked back to listen to the new Floyd for the first time with a glass of wine.
I was totally transported. Superb music. I am bowled over by how good it is. Perfect companion to the more traditional stylings of the Division Bell. I just floated away for an hour there and am more chilled out now than I have been for months. Listening to music rocks! literally! Music is infinitely better through a good sound system and I'd totally forgotten that. I shall be breaking out the really useful boxes full of CDs forthwith to see what else I need to hear properly again.

Bit too reggae influenced for me. I'd veer more toward the electronic strains of Ultravox if you're talking new wave.
