Went down to my local pub last night to compete in the weekly pub quiz held there and my team did phenomenally bad. We finished in fifth place out of six teams - a big drop from last week where we finished second behind a team of brain boxes who win it every week.

I spent the whole weekend worrying about something at work, but it seems to have all passed without a hitch. Huh.
Also after nearly 10 years of procrastinating, I bought Baldur's Gate II on Friday. My goodness what a great game. I'm glad I didn't discover this while at Uni!

I too am waiting to play through Baldur's Gate II and the expansion pack. I started it about 9 years ago. Can't remember where I was at so will need to start again.

I was in a bad way this morning and terrible thoughts of packing in the job were going through my head as the pressure built. But I didn't. Instead, I sorted out trains and accom for a Moonbase 2* meet-up in Brum in April. I reckon a few days away might help. To pay for it, no cd/dvd/toy/book purchases this side of May but I think a short break will do me good and besides I'm been so busy I've built up an unused pile of those kinds of things anyway.

Sounds like a very wise decision there, Ralph.

A trip away is often good for what ails us.
You have inspired me to think about sorting out a short break away myself. I have been meaning to revisit the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds for a while. Perhaps I should look into sorting something out in that regard.

Puncture on the way in to work this morning. Changed it all by myself. Knew something was up when I went round a corner at what's usually a safe speed and found myself veering slowly towards oncoming traffic... eeek. That was a bit of an adrenaline rush.

My first half marathon is in three and a bit weeks. Went running tonight for a good hour, reckon I got close to ten miles. Cardio and muscles all good, some chafing has caused much discomfort. My impending shower may bring much pain.

I could do with a bit of exercise to work off the beer belly I have. The only half marathon I have ever managed though is half a Snickers bar!

Never liked that name change or Opal Fruits to Starburst.
Been working a lot recently which means I get to eat and pay CUTA fees, but I'm also knackered. Got two days off now though.

I brought a camcorder off Ebay a few days ago and today I received it through the post. Maybe sometime in the near future you will see my Youtube channel spring into life!

I wouldn't mind turning up for that meet-up but I'm having one or two money problems at the moment. I haven't even booked anything for AA2010 yet but hope to within the next month or two.

I really can't afford it and didn't plan for it but I need a change of scenery for a couple of days soon or my head will explode.

I think a break will do you the world of good, Doc'.
Hello Sportsfans!!!!
My backs as sore as mustard in the eye. Why? My new hobby- GARDENING!!!! I had a garden in my old old house, before I shacked up with the now Mrs, but that house needed completely re-doing, so the Garden didn't get done 'fore I sold the mother. And the old house was a terrace, decent size inside, but none-existent outside- 'fact there was minus room outside. So now, in the Posh Pad, we spoilt. The nice folkes who had it before us couldn't keep up to it last year, so we've had a bit of sorting out to do, cutting back, etc etc. And I'm loving it! We're discovering alsorts of things we didn't know we had! You can walk behind the back hedge! A secret walk as Piglet calls it. But all the stooping has made the old spine throb, must get Mrs Shockers to rub in some Deepheat! Barf Barf!
Good fortune to all Hubbers!

Oh! And I thought I'd have to decompress a tension pneumothorax last shift! (would have been my first) Sadly it didn't occur. Well, not sadly for the patient obviously!

About an hour ago I did one or two dummy runs with my new camcorder and it seems the picture quality isn't all that great in larger rooms but quite good in a small well-lit room. Hence when I get round to making my first vid it will be shot entirely on location in the kitchen!
In other news I also signed off from the dole today. I had to because last week I had worked too many days to be registered as a jobseeker and therefore was not entitled to Jobseekers Allowance. This is actually a large burden off my shoulders as I don't have to keep mucking around with the place. My new job is now a three day a week job - which I'm hoping to supplement with a another part time job that works on my days off from it. With any luck I may be able to scrape enough money together by August for the trip to Brum.

^Try manually setting the white balance, that might help things if you want to shoot somewhere other than the kitchen.

As documented in the channelling thread, my grandpa died last night. I visited him yesterday evening (I was tempted to leave it to tonight due to post-Toys'r'us exhaustion, so that was a close one) and he was in a real state. We all knew it was coming but we prepared for the best just in case he pulled a miraculous recovery, like the last couple of times he was hospitalised.
Anyway, since his rapid decline may have been down to his suddenly deciding to drink a mouthful of body wash from his bedside cabinet and promptly emptying his gastrointestinal system there has to be an autopsy. I think it's to assign any possible blame but given that he had barely touched the water, tea and lucozade we constantly plied him with prior to the incident I don't see how anyone could have seen it coming. Regardless, the autopsy means we have to delay the funeral and with Easter approaching it'll be hard to schedule it until we're into April.
This means there's a small chance we'll have to forget about the non-refundable holiday to Legoland in Denmark I got my parents for their birthdays. Still, there's a fairly large window we should be able to fit the funeral into and still let my mum have the time away from the inevitable stress and my dad have the holiday he's been talking about off and on for as long as I can remember.
Fingers crossed, eh?

Things seem to be going up and down for you at the moment Nick. First you get the excellent news about your uni placement and then this.

My condolences, Nick.
Knackering day today, getting up early to be driven up to mid-Wales and back to address a meeting of representatives from all our local authorities on a subject that I am only bluffing my way through while my colleague who looks after it normally is on maternity leave. But they were a friendly enough bunch and kind enough not to throw me in the swimming pool of the leisure centre in which we were meeting. And it was conveniently next-door to a red kite feeding centre and there were many of the marvellous birds in the sky. A lovely sight to see.
