Joe Q confirmed at his panel that Marvel have now acquired the rights to Marvelman (Miracleman).
Finally we should get to see some affordable reprints of the material.

Aha. Well apparently Marvel own the rights to the character / the 50s/60s stories, but not YET the Moore/Gaiman run.
However Gaiman is up for having it reprinted by Marvel, and I think he has Moore's rights too

One current possibility doing the rounds is that they might not be able to reprint the Moore/Gaiman stuff, but can use the scripts and have the series redrawn.

I hope not, nobody is going to match Totleben's work in the second to last part of Olympus. That being said if they let someone redraw the Chuck Austen drawn issues I wouldn't be too upset.

Cheaper than the back issues, but in all seriousness trades are getting really, really expensive. I don't know if affordable is the right word.

Given that collections of Moore's tenure on MM go for three digits a book I'll say they would be affordable!

That's how they are going to trick you into paying $29.99 for five issues or something!

Any Omnibus version might end being the best value for money one though... bound to be some ridiculously small, but expensive, version first.

Avoid the Marvelman's Finest pish. Get this - some facts on the character and all the shiny new covers from the Marvelman's Finest mini.
Now bring on the Moore/Leach/Davis stuff!

It is one of those thing where when they eventually do them I will have a look then and decide then if I am tempted by them. The long, long legal shenanigans have sapped my patience a bit with the whole thing though.

The irony in this is that although Marvelman was a blatant rip of Captain Marvel - that was never the legal issue (even though the original Captain Marvel suffered at the hands of lawyers when compared to Superman!)
The irony that Marvel snapped up the Captain Marvel name when Fawcett's mark expired - so when DC revived the original there was a character in each company with the same name (although Marvel had the mark, so could use the name as a title).
Add your copy becomes MiracleMan to sound different, rights get muddier than a Peppa Pig puddle and eventually Marvel snags all the rights.
Pretty surreal.
Somewhat ironic that Marvel decided to cash in by reprinting some of the early stuff, where its still a fairly close rip of "Captain Marvel", if they ever get to the later critically acclaimed stuff it might be interesting, but for me at present its a case where the story behind the comic is more interesting than the comic.
For the record I loved Jerry Ordways run on Shazam comics and would like to read more of the later MiracleMan stuff if for nothing more than reading it like Watchmen was to the Charlton, that would be to the Fawcett stuff.
Marc.

So Miracleman Issue 1 came out.
Didn't buy a physical copy as I will get the trade so to Comixology for me. A decent package all in, I understand Garry Leach was signing copies at Orbital so I expect James Wilson had a pretty busy day at work.
Wasn't a fan of Joe Q's cover art, the recolour job on the interiors was pretty well done and yes Alan Moore is credited simply as The Original Writer.
Made me chuckle a bit.
