You know it's just occurred to me looking at the pics from that book that the great thing about original Lego Space and indeed a lot of the pre 2000 Lego sets in general (which includes earlier licensed sets too) is that it was easy for a child to create something that looked congruent with the "official" models. Now everything is so stylised creating your own that fits in requires more skill.

If it helps we had absolutely no fun admiring the excellent builds, we cried tears on the amazing rides and were definitely not happy with all the piles of Lego to build from. And as for the Lego Shop after and the dozens of cheap previously unseen polybags.. What a disgrace!

I went off Lego Optimus fairly quickly. It often fell to bits without even being touched. Couldn't transform it without bits coming off, sometimes whole limbs.

It has been taken apart to be mixed with all the other lego.
