Lego has a strict 'no war toys' so leaving certain insignia off stuff will be in tune with that.

It would also be illegal to sell in Germany among other European countries, which I imagine plays a big role!

Did they literally just write down stuff from their actual dreams, and go "That'll do!" ?

I've been trying to work out why these just don't work for me, and I think I've finally figured it out. They feel unfinished, the lack of a canopy, leaving the pilots head sticking out the top just looks...wrong. The pilots compartment has a floor, side walls and and rear and forward walls - but it feels like they just didn't bother finishing it off. Got as far as the shoulders and just gave up.
I think it is the fact that it is a full mini-mecha apart from that. If it was an exoskeleton style powered armour then I might be a little more forgiving. But its closer to a Gear or something from Votoms, except with an only partially enclosed pilot. Not even a windscreen like an AV-98 Ingram Labor...
It just...niggles at my design sensibilities.

You wouldn't like the Eldrador robots either then, since they have the same lack of canopy. I suppose both the Lego mechs and the Eldrador robots are a bit like Humongous from the film Labyrinth after Hoggle pulled its helmet off to reveal the Goblin operator inside the giant head.

And we all know what happened to the goblin pilot shortly thereafter... Illustrating the importance of a proper canopy on ones mecha. :-)

Illustrating the importance of a proper canopy on ones mecha. :-) Preferably one that can't be easily yanked off by a Dwarf on a mission to redeem himself. The good thing about Lego, of course, is you can build your own hats for hatless mechs. Martin

But then you start wondering whether it couldn't do with jump-jets for extra mobility, perhaps a dedicated anti-infantry weapon...or something for indirect fire-support...and before you know it you've doubled its mass and moved it up out of the ultralight category into a whole new weight class... :-) Karl
