Then I came across seasons 1 2 3 and 5 of Babylon 5 at a charity shop so Im working through that now. WHAT NO DONT SKIP SEASON FOUR, JESUS I nearly didnt buy them because 4 was missing, but figured I can at least finally rewatch the first 3 years and keep an eye out for cheap season 4. I will lend you my season 4, you can't go straight from 3 to 5, 5 is horrible!!!!

Oh Im not skipping. I was almost tempted not to pick up season 5 as it largely disappointed me on first viewing and season 4 wraps the show pretty well.
Then I remembered the final episode of series 4 being bumped to the end of season 5 after it was renewed. At leas thats how I remembered it.

Yeah the final ep filmed as part of season 4 was the crew all old, so they bumped it to the end of season 5. I found season 5 better on a rewatch, but at the time it was uuuuuugh. Still not great but marathoning them makes it less painful. There's about half a season worth of ideas there max.

YOu should pick up Legends of the Rangers too for top quality spinoff action. This is TRUE FRIEND advice.

Love Babylon 5. Only modern BSG is better imo. Katsulas was an incredible actor.

I wish there was a DVD set of Babylon 5 season 4 that had the correct final episode in it (i.e. the finale that they made at the time but held back for the end of season 5). Then I wouldn't have to own season 5.
Don't care for modern Battlestar Galactica. Too bleak.

Then I wouldn't have to own season 5. While season 5 feels very eeeeeh, I can get on board with what they were trying to do (ie what happens after the big ending), but the fact it was both rushed into production and then doubly rushed as I seem to recall JMS lost all his notes made it just not hang together much at all. Most of the plots tended to require everyone to be on their Idiot Pills.

It also wasn't helped by a reduced budget for what was already a cheap show and one less shooting day for each episode.

The one thing thats a bit depressing about B5 are the cg shots, not aging well is an understatement, thats the danger of being the cutting edge film or TV series I suppose.
Not that they look terrible, but they look almost quaint now.

I actually think they still look good! (did a big rewatch a year or so back). I mean sure they don't look realistic, but the direction is really solid and they're used to pump up the drama rather than replace the drama, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I think they're beautiful. So colourful and awe-inspiring - especially the Shadow ships.
I think of B5 space shots as being more like oil paintings than photorealistic.

Yeah I can agree with that, but 20 years ago I think they were going for photorealism as much as possible with the technology and in that respect they havent aged well. Then the battle scenes ocaasionally have ships that blow up in very blocky ways.

The problem for me more is the DVDs have widescreen versions of the live action footage with extra stuff on the sides not seen on tv and yet the effects shots are cropped to fit!
