I've read that these pics are missing their wings. Surely destined to be repainted as Darkwind & Dreadwing ?

That's much what I've seen from selling them, too, albeit I haven't had all the stock in I should have by now. As Karl said above, there seem to be distribution problems. I would have thought it more likely that Wave 4.5 were cancelled rather than the whole range, this being a wave composed mainly of toys from previous waves (Swoop, Sentinel Prime - both in Wave 4 - , Jazz and Prowl, the sole new figure being a repaint, Elite Guard Bumblebee), as a measure to counter whatever problems Hasbro appears to have with the line. Remember that Movie Voyager Wave 1 2008 was cancelled because they had an oversupply of the Thundercracker/Rescue Ratchet wave.
Strictly speaking there hasn't been any discounting, which is a price reduction to clear stock, usually at the end of the product life cycle; rather there has been promotional pricing for specific periods, at Argos, Toys 'R' Us ad Tesco. Play's current low prices are under a "price crash" promotion and it's not really clear to what extent this is a special offer or a discounted clearance. Hasbrotoyshop's reduction is of some concern, though. The movie line is now over, so that's presumably a clearance, but what of Animated and Universe? Hasbro hasn't reduced the Star Wars and Marvel Crossovers.
I would have thought it more likely that Hasbro cancel the Universe line rather than Animated, as that is a smaller, supplemental line.
I have emailed a supplier to try to get some information.
This rumour is all over the forums, all from that one post. I hope that doesn't make it become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well this is just shocking news on ccn.com/business/crisis-hits-toys.htt/jpfs.cnnbusiness=149
a quote:
"Hasbro has announced that due to heavy profit investment in real estate set to be developed into a Michael Bay Transformers Amusement Theme park going under, they are having to discontinue their Transformers line in favor of Sock Puppets."
"Arron Archer of Hasbro was quoted as saying "We think that in these credit strapped times, Sock Puppets are the children's toy of the future; and Hasbro will aggressively move to corner the sock-puppet market with offers such as Smelly 4 Days Sock and Cinamon Sock for girls. Sock undies are also being considered." Archer went on to note that the demise of Transformers was imminent once it became clear that the mega-million dollar blockbuster movie was a defacto bust when Hasbro realized just how little it had actually profited given the real value of the US Dollar. As producer Steven Spielburg said "sure, it technically cost us less to produce, but when comparing the purchasing power of the dollars we spent with the decline in value since that has effected what came in, we just decided to give it to my garderners in exchange for some Mexian Pesos; and they had a merry bonfire with lots of tequilla. That's probably when the Sock Puppet idea came up." The upcoming Transformers 2 film is still under way, but costs are being scaled back and even Hasbro executives have offered up their old socks to play the parts of the Transformers. "My wife couldn't stand washing the things anyways," said Hasbro's vice President for Public Affairs."
The world is at an end I tell you.

While there do seem to be lots of offers if I remember correctly both TRU and Argos ran similar offers on the movie stock last year and the classics the year before and I wasn't really paying attention by the end of AEC but I'm sure it happened with Cybertron. The only difference I see now is that since the movie Tesco and the like are also selling it numbers to warrant offers there as well.
Plus summer never seems the time for toys in the UK. It would probably help though if the show was advertised better or got onto ITV/BBC channels or just not on Nick Toons.

It would now appear to be the case that it is just wave 4.5 which is cancelled

ITV still has Saturday morning stuff. ITV2 hows more and the BBC has its own kids channel in addition to whatever gets shown on BBC1 and 2?
All of which are more accesible than Nick Toons it seems.
And one wave I can live without, not as though its the first time its happened.

Do either CBBC or CITV show toyline cartoons anymore ? Now I think wasn't CITV the home of Cybertron ? CBBC doesn't seem interested in toyline promoting shows (and CBeebies certainly isn't )(as opposed to having a show which has a toyline built after it as merchandising)

It would now appear to be the case that it is just wave 4.5 which is cancelled As I suggested would be the case. Where did you read that news? As for advertising, which somebody, somewhere was suggesting isn't being done much for Animated toys, I don't watch much children's TV, but I have seen Animated advertised quite often on CITV. Meanwhile, I would love to see Transformers sock puppets! Using printed fabric like for Slumblebee, some would lend themselves perfectly to it: Grimlock, Sludge, BW Megatron, Snapdragon...

Well done Nigel. The bloke who started the initial panic has posted his email from Hasbro- it says nothing more than that wave 4.5 of the deluxe assortment won't be coming out here. Hope everybody picked up Jazz when they had the chance!

Good to see that some clarity has emerged in this story. And it does seem to have been a bit of a storm in a teacup. Someone gets told "Don't put up preorders for Wave 4.5 of Transformers:Animated as it is cancelled" and parts of the internets read the "it" as refering to Animated, rather than to Wave 4.5.
See, that is why English is a dangerous and confusing language.....

I'm thinking they would make an interesting take on Rack'n'Ruin to go along with Roadbuster and my Bulkhead Impactor (and possibly Optimus Prime Emirate Xaron)

If they put wheels on one and wings on another - I'd buy them as Fastlane and Cloudraker.
But I still would prefer Pounce and Wingspan.

Prowl's an interesting upgrade, and Waspy is tempting. Gonna get me a Wreck Gar though ! Wreck Gar looks absolutely amazing!! I love that innocent gormless face on him, what a spot on design.
