Glad to hear of your excitement over the new Classics.
Two questions:
1. What are your favourites from the first batches of Classics?
2. What do you think of the Japanese Classics, better, worse or meh?

1 Mirage, BB, Ramjet, Jetfire.
2 Generally more acurate though some of the chrome is a bit garrish

1 Rodimus, Prime, Mirage, Jetfire. Bumblebee
2 I'm fine with both the Japanese paint apps and the ones we got, but the exception is Megatron who is much better in the Japanese G1 scheme IMO.

I'm puzzled by Ultra Powerglide. Powerglide an Ultra? It makes perfect sense to me. Yes, he was a Mini Autobot originally, but in terms of scale, a plane is a lot bigger than a car.

I'm puzzled by Ultra Powerglide. Powerglide an Ultra? It makes perfect sense to me. Yes, he was a Mini Autobot originally, but in terms of scale, a plane is a lot bigger than a car. Not to mention that Powerglide originally turned into a fairly sizeable plane. (A-10's are fairly hefty chunks of aeroplane). I'm curious as to whether they stick with something similar to the same alt-mode for Powerglide. It would make sense to do something as "Thud"ish as possible, but it will be coming out not that long after the Wingsabre repaint in the movie line. I wonder if that might hurt its sales. edit - and in answer to Graham's questions:- 1) Bumblebee, Jetfire, Megatron, Skywarp. 2) I'm not bothered one way or the other about the Japanese repaints to be honest. The US/Euro release colours are sufficiently good that I don't think that the recolours are either better or worse. Just different. (with the exception of Starscream - I much prefer his Euro/US colour scheme to the Japanese version). Karl

Universe page update. Watch the Clip"They were always real to me" What could this mean? It's something G1 and Universe related.

Wow! I see the guys on TFW2005 trying to describe what they were seeing in their fan club magazines were being unduly pessimistic. Prowl is both a slavish reproduction and a clever looking toy. Octane isn't... quite as bad as I was expecting. Powerglide is just superb. He's a far cry from Wing Saber, and possibly a little bit Star Saber around the head. Onslaught looks very chunky and powerful, and will no doubt drown in the same size of box as Powerglide.
I'm going to have to buy them all, dammit.

I'll absoloutely be picking all of those up, but I especially want Prowl and Powerglide.

I see they have gone quite A-10 influenced on Powerglide - and he's actually a lot closer to the general proportions than Wingsabre/Sonic Bomber or the original Powerglide toy. (Best proportioned A-10 alt-mode since one of the Micromasters I'd say.) He is quite impressive. I can see my considering him.
Onslaught and Prowl are rather nice as well. I like Universe Onslaught's alt-mode much more than I do the tank-transporter version to be honest. Tankor is a far better stab at a triple changer than I was expecting - doesn't look like his humanoid mode is too compromised by the third mode, and the other two modes are reasonble. Is it just me though or does he seem to have a big garden rake in humanoid mode? Maybe he is cultivating a Zen garden.
Still not convinced about Sunstreaker. The engine-placement in vehicle mode looks odd to me and I think it spoils the lines of the alt-mode.
These look fairly good thought, I can see me picking up some of these.

Oh yes. They are nice. I reckon I'll be picking all those up. Yes indeed. Sunstreaker looks to be the weakest (in my eyes) but the rest are top notch.
Though having said all that the final colours may put me off, depending on how they come out. If Powerglide is going to be mostly silver that should be interesting.
Actually I look forward to putting Powerglide with my Mini-Autobots... he'll look great standing on/next to Beachcomber and Warpath!

I hope the Sideswipe toy isn't going to be just a repaint consider how much the site talks about the attention put into the moulds. (i.e Sunstreaker's head and Powerglide's wings).
Has'nt anyone seen the video yet?

I will be all over these! Between Universe, Animated and the continuation of the Movie line, 2008 is shaping up to be a great year for Transformers toys. Then 2009 will have the second movie and be the 25th anniversary, so it should be another good year. It's a great time to be a Transformers fan Ken, yes, I've seen the video. It's like something from a parallel world, where a different director made the live action film.

Oh yeah, 25th year of Transformers!! Wow.
I wonder if there will be anything special put out.
Hopefully not the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime with new packaging.

Though having said all that the final colours may put me off, depending on how they come out. If Powerglide is going to be mostly silver that should be interesting. It is odd that they talk on the web-site about not making Powerglide mostly red because they want a more "real-world" look - and then say they are going to paint him silver... If they were using a light grey I could see what they were getting at. (Actually, the Movie repaint of Wingsaber sounds like he is going to be closer to a realistic scheme ). Sunstreaker definitely feels like the weakest of the molds - not that it is particularly terrible. Just somewhat outclassedby its stablemates. Karl

I would imagine they are talking about a matt silver (ie light grey) rather than metallic.

Pretty, although there is a certain irony in giving a flying tank like that a name with "glide" in it.

The original Powerglide was one of my first Mini-Autobots and I used to think that his name meant he could turn off his engines and gently float back down to the ground.
Of course, now I am older, I understand things like gravity, thrust and aerodynamics.

*Shockprowl calms himself down in order to answer G's question*
I loved pretty much all the molds from the first wave. I actually found the weakest to be Megatron, mainly 'cos I'm in a pretty big 'Megatron should be a tank' phase in my life. Obv I though Magnus was a cheat, but the mold is so fun to fight with that I didn't mind too much.
This first wave looks pretty god-damn put me in a dress and spank my arse fantastic. Totally convinced over Powerglide being an Ultra. Looks very nice. I currently use Energon Snow Cat as Onslaught, same guns on his back, although wrong colour. But Classics Onslaught looks like a very nice fig indeed.
But Prowl, holy Christmas, Prowl looks like they reached into my head and pulled out the most perfect Classics version of him!
I'm so excited I may just---

They do all look great except as mentioned Tankors wings. Giant Powerglide is just so mental, but makes sense. So this line can now give us Prowl, Sliverstrak, Smokescreen, Sunstreaker, Red Alert and Sideswipe from two moulds. Oh and Jazz if they really want. Now if they just release a non mp3 ML Soundwave and a Ratchet/Ironhide toy we have near enough a basic G1 set.
Oh and that video is cool. It makes me wonder if they could have gone that way with the new movie. I can understand Bays view that his way bots look more realistic but I cant help thinking if he'd wanted to they could have made more traditional looking version work.

You got a good point there, Andy, re the look of the movie. Shows it could have been done more traditional and look awesome. Interesting.
And dear sweat Matrix of Leadership, I'm so excited 'bout Classics! Yes, Sideswipe, Jazz and Ironhide, armoured Ultra Magnus and Galvatron next. Then Ratchet, Soundwave and those cool versions of Shockwave and Cosmos that we've seen in wave 3. I'd also like to see a Spinger, Blaster and I think Brawn is up for a new version. I'd preffer Bluestreak over 'Silverstreak' though.
That Prowl almost makes me forget the crime of no 6" Titanium Prowl. Almost...
