I am all over that Onslaught. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Anyone else want to join the all over gang?? Re. Jazz... Yeah, I thought Prowl's mold would fit too. Like Graham, Powerglide was one of my first Transformers (I remember having Beachcomber, Seaspray and Warpath too) and his mold looks great. The prototypes also make me like Sunstreaker who I disliked in the earlier TFCC pics, maybe it's the yellow? |

Oh, just though of something. Why have they decided to call Octane Tankor. He clearly looks like an updated Octane, partic in the head design. Curious.

Hasbro likely lost the copyright to the name "Octane"... however, why they went for "Tankor" is beyond me! I thought "Payload" would make a better alternative, myself.
But in my heart and mind said toy will be called Octane. I don't apply international copyright legislation to my display shelves.

I'm not sure why they went with Tankor either. I guess it could be intended as a pun on Octane's ground vehicle mode, which was a Petrol Tankor? Actually, Payload would make a better name - it would quite nicely allude to both his alt-modes. If I get him I will likely either call him Octane or "Herc-bloke", interchangably. Karl |

I think there's definately scope within 'Universe Classics' to do Beast Wars characters as well. I'm hoping Universe Classics will emulate 6" Titaniums in covering characters from different 'eras'. |

Regarding the Octane/Tankor issue, I reckon the Octane name has been problematic for some time. Robots In Disguise had Mega-Octane. I've always thought that they probably wanted to use Octane but couldn't for copyright reasons. Personally, I find Mega-Octane to be quite a naff name, partly because it sounds like it's not quite what it's supposed to be.
Meanwhile, Tankor is a copyright that Hasbro has been keeping active, using it in first in Beast Machines then in Universe Micromasters and Cybertron Mini-Cons.
If Octane isn't usable and Hasbro wants to maintain the Tankor name, then a Transformer with a tanker heritage is a good (if not ideal) match.
Strange that they're not using Mega-Octane, though. Perhaps they feel that Tankor is a better name or they they place more importance on maintaining the copyright.

Mega-Octane says to me that the character is better than normal Octane. Otherwise they wouldn't put a Mega after his name.

I'm really not too pleased with any of them. I'm not a big fan of the gold paint on Onslaught either, which is a shame because it's the only one i wanted.
Why can't they release the grey unpainted ones? They always look so much nicer.

Am i the only one who thinks Powerglide looks fucking awful? I think the protoype pictures looked a lot better than the colour shots that are floating around. In the neutral grays the proportions look a lot better than they do on the finished article. The weight of kibble under the forward fuselage wasn't so noticeable in the early shots either. The colour scheme does him no favours either. I was hoping for something in the much greyer end of the spectrum, somewhere in the region of the Compass Ghost scheme. (Ironic that they decide not to paint him red all over because it isn't realistic, and then paint him white.....). I don't like the red trim either - I don't think it works with the white. Basically I think I liked the prototype but I'm steadily going off the finished article. Prowl looks good though. Karl |

I knew this would happen. I loved the look of the prototypes, but these colours certainly seem to spoil the toys. I wonder what reaction would be if we'd never seen the prototypes?
Ah well.
I think I will be joining Phil in waiting to see what the Japanese versions might be like.

Holy Christmas! Prowl looks drop-your-pants-and-wave-your-tackle-in-the-wind awesome! I'm also really liking Octane! He prob looks the best of the bunch! Sunstreaker good also. Powerglide? Majorly crapbags. Sorry Powerglide fans. Don't like. Wasn't convinced with the proto pics, but now fully painted? Terrible. Bad choice of character IMHO. I was also starting to not like Onslught. But he's growing on me. Except his alt mode! Looks like a tonker toy! But face in partic looks very well done. Anyone else think Onslaught'd make a good Grimlock?
But Prowl, aw yessssss.......!

On the club boards theres been a lot of complaints about the colour pics. Part of the reason you might not like them is that they aren't transformed properly. Tankor and Prowl are suffering pretty badly from this I think. Powerglide is by far the worst example though just compare the two pictures. Im not a huge fan of the colours but Im confident that it'll look a lot better than that.
I actually really like Tankors colours. Onslaught looks good, too much gold in vehicle mode, but as a robot it works.
Oh and as for BW classics, I wouldn't mind but I do feel it would be a bit pointless the original versions are already as posable as thee classics which is one of the major attractions of these. As for updated designs, slightly more cartoony would be good but I dont know if it would be enough or me to buy them. Also if I had a choice between an update of Cheetor or Dinobot or finally getting a show accurate version of Ironhide/Ratchet I know which one I want first. Not that a really good Dinobot wouldn't be appreciated.

Good point 'bout BW toys, they stand up to modern design extreamly well. Show Ironhide AND Ratchet must be two of the most desperately needed Transformers toys imagionable! Ironhide's rumoured for classics, isn't he?
