Today I try the new 'Philpotts' which has opened across the road from my work. It looks rather nice and does a nice line of Roast Beef. It's a trick! Don't do it, you will then always get your sandwiches there and they are so expensive! There was one round the corner from my old work. I was often mystified that folk would spend lots of money for not a lot of food when many better and significantly cheaper options were within the same walking distance. I tried them once and paid £4 for a very small and dried out baked potato. Do let us know what the Glasgow one is like, GAV. -Ralph

Speech Therapist rang this morning. She was unwilling to amend the statement as it wouldn't then be a fair representation of Jonathan's needs. Result. Jolly good. -Ralph

I am loving the Speed Stars stuff. Prime is a definite get when he eventually takes a price slump.

Today has been a little frustrating. I turned up at the church this morning to project for a regional leaders do. As soon as I turned the pc on I knew there was trouble. There's two monitors on the projection desk, one carries the PC's general output, the other carries the output to the projector. 2nd monitor was moaning about an "out of timing" error and the projector's output was just wrong, too big cutting off the first line of text.
30 mins fiddling produced an acceptable display but I didn't need that stress. According to one of my friends it's the error is to do with a product of the horizontal resoloution (lines on screen) and the refresh rate of the monitor exceding what the monitor is capable of. We're hoping it's a case of bunging the rfresh rate on monitor 2 down ....

Vandalism stills seems to be the favourite pastime of the youths in my village. I waited at a bus stop today (for a bus obviously) only to discover that all six large pains of glass have been completely smashed out of it. With only a few tiny chunks lining the edges of the frames it looked like the vandals had done a real good job of it. The laughable thing is that this particular bus stop was prone to such mindless vandalism many years ago so the local council decided to replace the glass pains with plastic ones. Vandals still graffitied these new pains and occasionally burnt holes in them with fag lighters but at least there were no broken glass shards all over the pavement. The council then decided to replace the plastic panels with glass ones once again and the inevitable happened. It makes me wonder if the council thinks before doing something sometimes.

I spent yesterday morning voyaging to the optician for an eyetest. Fortunately it turns out that the issues that I have been having with my eyes are not, in fact due to a deterioration of my eyesight, but have other more easily correctable causes. Yesterday afternoon was spent pottering around the house and then watching Where Eagles Dare - it may have the largest combination of unlikely doublecrosses in a single war movie, but I think that may be what makes it a classic. I also like the fact that almost every explosion, in a movie that has a lot of explosions in the last reel, actually makes some logical sense. Whilst a lot of action films suggest that the universe is made of gelignite and gasoline there is a logical reason for the enormous volume of explosion in this film - our protagionists having a huge bag of explosives and a lot of Wermacht to fight.
This morning I wandered out for my customary walk and discovered that if you go out early enough you bump into people who actually great a Good Morning with a returned Good Morning instead of a grunt and a glowering look. (Ah Falkirk, so dourly Calvinist in general - heaven help that anyone would commit the sin of looking like they were enjoying any part of their life).

Had a decent walk on a fresh day, had a big mug of tea in a cafe that sent me to the moon (what the hell was in it?), Quorn peppered steaks for dinner and watched a few movies (Firefox and Ghost in the Shell) while snacking. Not a bad day.
