Space:1999 has been acquired on shiny Blu-Ray.
Watched BREAKAWAY. Looked stunning in HD!!!
The cover of the box lies though. It says it includes all 48 episodes when as everyone knows only 24 episodes were made.

BLACK SUN is just as fab as I remember. That was the episode that really hooked me on the show during the BBC2 repeat run.

Five episodes in now. I am trying to marathon all of Year 1 prior to Breakaway Day. On Breakaway Day I shall listen to the new Big Finish remake!
Show looks fab in HD.

I had forgotten about the bit in FORCE OF LIFE when Ian McShane got blasted by a laser and turned into a charred cadavar which then got up and KEPT GOING. Genuinely put the shits up me.

The marathon continues and I am now up to DEATH'S OVER DOMINION starring BRIAN BLESSED.
I remember seeing this show for the first time in 1999 when it was run on BBC2 and as it went on was puzzled why it was not better remembered and more famous as for the most part it was fab. Then Year 2 started and I understood.

Pinwig misses the days when he alone could determine what goes on the Gogglebox.

Who is the foul fiend who does not appreciate the sacrifice the brave men and women of Moonbase Alpha made on Sept 13 1999???

I finish re-watching Year 1 tomorrow! My word, this series holds up (for the most part). One of those vintage shows that really benefits from an HD picture and sound remaster. It adds a lot to it. Production values way ahead of its time. Some of these episodes I hadn't seen in 20 years since they were on BBC2 but they're great.
Kano is my favourite character.

Watched the Year 1 finale back to back with the Year 2 opener. Wow, you can feel the quality suddenly drop through the floor between those two episodes. Even the previously fab visual effects suddenly look crapper and cheaper.
We shall see how we go. I haven't seen a lot of Year 2: I gave up roughly halfway through the BBC2 repeat run 20 years ago in despair at how a great show was run into the ground!

At least this time I have some knowledge. Back during that BBC2 repeat run (I had not seen the series before then or knew much about it) I was completely unprepared!!!
I can't think of any other series where there is such a change in tone between seasons other than (arguably) Doctor Who.

The Father Unit very excitedly told me the Horror Channel on Council TV is showing the series from October.
Meanwhile, I am six episodes into Year Two. It's not good. Even the least good episodes of Year One were a MILLION times better!
