I got this on DVD recentley from the Woolworths bargain bin. I've forgotten what a great movie this is.
A bit sad in places but lots of humour and music, and Michael Caine (who has also played the ghost of Christmas present in another Scrooge adaption) is brilliant as Scrooge. Heck, even Gonzo is great as Charles Dickens.
Even the dog from Fraggle Rock makes a couple of cameo appearances.

I have watched this film more than any other film EVER. At least 50 times. Last time was on Tuesday. As is pointed out on the dvd the fact it has Dicken narration makes it one of the most effective adaptations. Even if hes being played by Gonzo and hanging around with Rizzo.
The effects are truly great as well, especially the arial shots of London.
Ken does the version you have include the song when Scrooge and lady love break up?
Apparently it wasnt in the cinema release but it is in the video version I own, but not in the DVD one. I must have the complete version on dvd before my tape dies (or more likely the last of the video players die)

My version does'nt have the song. It's a standard DVD release. I think the Kermits 50th anniversary edition of the DVD might have it though.

Thanks had a look and Oh my! A quick look at Amazon and Plays reviews makes the situation clear. 2 DVD versions both getting it wrong. Will buy the 50th version and just watch the pan and scan version till Disney get their heads around the concept of releasing the best version of a film possible. Cranky now. ? But I just watched my vhs version so not that cranky. Andy

As a Muppet connoisseur (own The Best of the Muppet Show Vol.s 1-3, the complete season 1, and various films like Labyrinth on DVD) and fan of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, I have to say I don't rate the Muppets' Christmas Carol very highly. It's nowhere near as funny as The Muppet Show, and not as profound or moving as serious adaptations of the book (my favourite being Patrick Stewart's on Channel 4, Christmas Eve, 7.15pm).
It probably is the best Muppet movie, but that's not saying much, as none of them really capture the real Muppet Show spirit.

Ta for the heads up on the Patrick Stewart Christmas Carol adaption. Been meaning to tape it for the last couple of years but keep missing it. Same with The Snowman too.

I gave up and bought the Snowman for £3 from Asda as I miss it every single year.

I might do the same. I've seen it bundled with Father Christmas for the same price in Woolies.

It does look nice (and new extras- to me at least) but the absence of When Love is Gone is just unacceptable. For me when Scrooge begins singing towards the end is the moment he gets just how screwed up his life has got. It also frankly stops Belle from looking like a cold hearted bitch. I'll pick up the US 50th Anniversary version which includes the song in the full screen version, even though its still absent from the widescreen version. I'm more comfortable with fullscreen anyway, 50+ viewing against widescreen 3 or 4 viewings. Andy

I generally hate christmas films, but the Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the very few exceptions. The film never gets old.
The only other christmas film I liked is Scrooged with Bill Murray.

Watched it once already today as good as ever though the fullscreen version on the dvd doesn't look great on the parents new ludicrously big tv.

I would pay good money to have a decent, uncut, transfer of this on shiny disc, but alas...

Yeah really hoping the eventual Bluray gives the uncut version, that I think everyone wants, priority.

The US version I have which has the uncut version on as an extra basically isn't in all fairness awful it just doesn't cope well on a HD TV, but it is full screen so on any widescreen TV either looks odd or gets stretched.

It's a top film, though I prefer Patrick Stewart's version of 'A Christmas Carol'. Other Christmas films I like: 'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas', and (if they count) 'The Snowman' and the Creature Comforts Twelve Days of Christmas. www.123video.nl/playvideos.asp?MovieID=822630Martin
