My newest non-tf acquisition is a work in progress thus far, but I thought I'd share anyways And rest assured it really is a coincidence that it's ANOTHER Gundam...I usually don't build three in a row, but I was sick, had nothing better to do and needed to rest my mind and body - which building models accomplishes: Anyways, Exia here is quite a novelty. He retains the traditional Gundam look while managing to be radically different in every way. I have NOT put the LED batteries into him because I need to buy them first, but I think I shall, as it would be a pity not to... Pete

Hm. I was describing the Gouf, not Ramba Rahl in that quote...although now that I look at the sentence (and given what we know about Rahl), it does kind of look like I'm talking about him I kind of figured that you were talking about the Gouf, but the other reading was available and was funnier so I kind of went with that... :-) Setsuna F. Seiei. Mission Commence. As soon as I find where I left my feet...... He retains the traditional Gundam look while managing to be radically different in every way. I have NOT put the LED batteries into him because I need to buy them first, but I think I shall, as it would be a pity not to... So, lights in him then, I'd guess that they would be in the GN drive in the back? (At least, if I was going to have something on the kit light-up that would be what I would do if I were the designer). Hadn't seen any kits from 00, but after two years I should think that there are plenty around :-) They haven't done a kit or anything of the Ptolemaios I presume? (The ships always seeming to lag behind the MS in getting merchandising treatment sadly). Karl

Actually - no. The Mastergrade Exia is the FIRST MG kit from OO. The GNX, which I THINK is from OO is coming next year as a Mastergrade. There are, however, zillions of HG kits for OO around... but Exia is the first Mastergrade. As for the lights - yep, it's the GN drive, which is fully removable and which in no way looses any of its' design parameters. It just goes to prove that Hasbro's "because we put lights and sound gimmicks into it" cop out for why Transformers have too much kibble and look wrong is...well... a cop out. The Exia in no way looses out on anything due to the leds. The GN drive is removable and can be stored on a seperate storae unit included with the model. The electronics are totally in no way bothersome... The only gripe I have with Exia thus far is the neck - which unlike the version 2.0 MSG models which have hydraulics, is merely a ball joint that you peg the head onto. I sort of understand why this is - it's because the MG kit allows you to also build Repair mode Exia, aka battle-damaged. So you can build a second head that has half the face torn off, and I guess they had to use a stable ball joint instead of risk that you'd keep tearing the hydraulics off and wear them out - so smart move durability wise...but a bit annoying as I'm one of the people who would prefer getting two MG Exias and building the battle damaged out of the second one... And the fingers. Horrible! The fingers have only one joint - which is bad, since most MG kits now offer double jointed fingers... at least the MSG ones do - but I guess that's because the hands are big enough for it in 1/100 scale... As for ships - Bandai reissued a bunch of 1/2000 (I think that was the scale) ships recently - but they're from the 80s so wouldn't be up to snuff. There's talk of a new model series for Gundam in 2010 - maybe they'll focus on ships? Hard to tell. Don't know. In any case - after two years...there is ONE MG kit for Gundam OO Although there is also a Perfect Grade O Raiser, so I guess that counts for something I don't mind Bandai taking it slow on these... Actually - no. The Mastergrade Exia is the FIRST MG kit from OO. The GNX, which I THINK is from OO is coming next year as a Mastergrade. In any case - after two years...there is ONE MG kit for Gundam OO I'm surprised by that. Considering that the show seems to have done reasonably well I would have expected them to push the higher end merchandise quite hard. Suspected as much - as the most obviously shiny thing on the Exia it seemed to be the most logical candidate. Bear in mind that a model kit may be subject to slightly different design stricture to a mass market children's toy. The design logic involved may be different. I'll be honest and say that I am not a huge fan of lights in model kits in any event. But that is just my old-timerness talking I think. Nothing to stop you doing that anyway mind you :-) I didn't actually realise that they even _ had _ poseable hands at all to be honest. That is rather nice considering the scale. I took a look at them on HLJ this lunchtime and I see what you mean. They aren't the greatest kits in the world. A shame, because I'd rather have some of the capital ships on my shelves than the MS's to be honest. I suspect not. They tend to focus on the Mobile Suits - and rightly so as those are the main draw. It is really only the odd folks of this world who pay much attention to the spacecraft. :-) It has got to be easier on your wallet that way if nothing else. Karl

I picked up The Incredible Hulk movie toys of The Hulk and Abomination. I had to be fussy and pick up the ones that had the best looking paintjobs. £3.99 each from Poundstretcher.
I am picking up the rather excellent Gray Hulk tomorrow. This figure looks like the best of the bunch.

Hi gang I have been doing some Xmas shopping on ebay, and one of my nephews to be ( my partners nephews) loves power rangers, as do I (US and Jap...so sue me), but I had got rid of all my toys in favour of TFs years ago so bought him a few cheepo megazords...then got carried away ang got a few carrier zords, which due to size are mow staying at ours so he can play with them when he comes over. Then I got really carried away. In the space of a month, I have picked up around 10 zords and amazed by variation in design athestic from cute to something approaching real robat athestics at times regaridng detail. Got all of the main SPD zords inc carrier zord, a couple from wildforce (inc the rare red ape) the Overdrive carrier/fleetzord, the main ninja and dino force zords, Stratoforce, the main and white horse from Mystic and the Time Force megazord. The level of metal in some of these are a big surprise. The MAIN surprise, is one I found last night - many of the limbs are interchangable between zords from different series!!!! SPD and Wildforce seem interchangable, and can switch the arms on the Overdrive carrier zord as well with them. Ninja and Dinoforce are linkable together it seems as well.....Got my own PR Scramble City going on here lol Anyway...spent to much on thse now when was supposed to be buying presnts for others...doh Confession over....

A wonderful find on Friday. I picked myself up a Japanese artbook that focuses on Motorcycles in animation. Now I'm not specifically interested in motorcycles but I do like a good animation artbook, and this one is surprisingly thorough. It covers all the things you would expect "Gatchaman", "Megazone 23", "Your under arrest!" and the like. But it also has entries covering things like "Beast Wars Second", "Brave Police J-Decker" and "Dragonball".
It is a very thorough piece of work, and the best part of it was that I found it in almost new condition in a charity shop for £3.75. That does me nicely.

A couple of new additions. But first - finally finished my Mastergrade Exia! I really REALLY like this Gundam, even though I found the show difficult to get into (although the premise is great...promising lots of political intrigue...). Still - as usual, the mecha is phenominal and Exia certainly does not dissapoint: Next up - I'm happy to finally be the proud owner of the King of Space GLENDIZER! To his left, the Queen of the Universe, Yoko Ritner.... this is my second Yoko statue and third Yoko figure. You can tell I like this girl I also have a new 1/60 VF-1J Max and Millia! version 2.0 of course. Haven't unpacked them yet. And also got the VE-1 Elintseeker. I had the old version 1.0 and sold it in anticipation of this gem coming out... but I haven't unpacked that either... As for the King of Space - he doesn't look that impressive - but that's only because you haven't seen him combined with his UFO! the set I got was the All Spazer set - so other than the UFO and the double-spazer plane, I also got drillspazer and marinespazer - and Glendizer combines with all of them... But I haven't had the time to combine them Well...he's combined with his double-spazer jet in the pic with Yoko...but I don't know if you can really see that... In any event - my favorite combination is with the UFO- I just love it. It's so utterly bonkers and full of 70s goodness...This is the UFO itself from the Spazer Set. Pretty big! Pete

And rounding out the latest acquisitions - Max and Millia with their son in law: And here we have the amazing Elint Seeker. I still remember getting version 1.0 a few years back - what a wonderful piece it was...but what a floppy mess in practice. This version is my far a masterpiece. Tampoo printing is the highest level I've seen on any valkyrie, and the parts don't "attach" as much as they "slide" on quite effortlessly and with no risk of breakage. And of course - no risk of them falling off randomly. A very very beautiful piece of work this! Pete

Gundam 00 has less of a political bent than you might think unfortunately. It does go in that direction a little bit but its primary interest seems to be in its core cast of characters, and what kind of people they are that are attracted to the mission statement of Celestial Being, and what effect a job description that boils down to "End war by blowing up people who have wars" has on them in the longer term. (And there was me thinking that the fact that their combat planner is often seen with a stiff drink in hand was a joke - silly Karl). It is the only AU Gundam series I have ever actually been able to get more than four episodes into it must be doing something right. Some interesting mecha designs, especially the clunkier cannon fodder types. And rounding out the latest acquisitions - Max and Millia Those do look very nice indeed. A definite step up from the original 1/60th line. The fact that they can hold the VTOL mode so well puts them well ahead of most Valkyrie toys. Now you've been listening to Myor Milia too much..... (Not, I hasten to add that that is a bad idea. Phew, don't think she heard me...) It does look fantastic in all the pictures I've seen. Not been able to afford one so far unfortunately but it looks like it is a stunning piece of work. Much better pilot figures than the old version as well by the look of it. Karl

If you'll pardon my breaking the sanctity of PMs, I'll answer your question here. Takara Fire Dagwon has Micromaster ramp connectors on the backs of his legs, which end up on top of the diagonal facing garage/ramps. However, the Takara release is only 12" high while your one is... 19? Bloody hell! Johnathan will think he's got a new little brother!
Anyway, I fear that if the MM ramp connectors have survived gigantification they'll be both too high up and too far separated to work. I may be wrong, however- keep us posted!

Car boot finds 1989 Turtle van, most of the side door is missing but I never got one growing up so I was quite happy to find it. 1993 Technodrome. Its so tiny. Was this the only version or was ther a large base playset? 1993 Foot soldier has a head flip thing going on, but only the regular head is present and a rubber chest cover with gold circuitry stuff going on under it. Never seen one before, then again I wasn't looking by 93.

A place called Pippin's Toys, a sort of memorabilia shop down a side street in Glasgow city centre, had the big Technodrome in the box for 80 quid. If anybody wants it give me a shout. They had other classic Turtles stuff but I cannot bring it to mind. I can go back and check if necessary.
