That I would pay for.
Also being Prime theres at least a half chance of a Hasbro release even if its stripped of the trailer, which wouldn't be that big a loss considering how little time anything spends in alt mode.

Bah! I'm disappointed. Still, if the cab/robot is smaller maybe this means a new, PROPER, MP Ultra Magnus is on the way? Given how much it costs with the (rather simple) trailer, I think proper transforming armour would still be ridiculously expensive

By contrast alt-modes can be a deal breaker for me. My Masterpiece Skywarp and Starscream spend the majority of their time in their fighter modes, balanced on their flight bases as if in the process of climbing up off the deck. (As does my First Convoy reissue, who spends most of his time in truck mode on one of the living room shelves. Karl

MP Skywarp is the one thing that does spend time in alt mode as do a couple of Megatrons in Gun mode with RID meg holding them.
MP Prime on the other hand has the weakest alt mode, actually I think it has the worst robot mode too. Not that it's actually bad just the weakest of the MP's, but the proportions are slightly off. I had it on display for years and from some angles the legs and torso don't fit I think its something to do with the balance between G1 toy and cartoon homage.
In its own right its a fantastic job, as a first attempt at a masterpiece level toy it's even better, but due to the way the line has evolved it and Megatron no longer fit.
Megatron and Prime side by side remain the best looking pair of toys I probably own though, if that view isn't too contradictory.

I've noticed the same thing... Prime next to the other MPs just looks a little, blocky. And there are plenty of flaws with the alt mode to make this one worth picking up for me. I figure Prime and Megs will stand at the back of the display in robot mode and Prime Mark 2 will be in alt mode with trailer in front of them.
My main worry though is that although the robot mode is to scale with Rodimus Convoy, I think the alt mode will look a little small next to Rodimus Convoy's people carrier.

I'm looking at the pictures of this and wondering if Spike is the same size as the Human Alliance figures....

I just can't get excited about this new Prime figure. Do we really need a new MP Prime? Really?

I can. It's all of original Prime but bigger and better. The MP-1 was too big to use with other toys and was missing all the trailer stuff - OPTIMUS PRIME IS NOT JUST A TRAILER! It looks like it might be in scale with the Classics figures with Prime bigger than a Voyager and I'm hoping Spike's in scale with the Human Alliance figures.
Bigly tempted.

Rant #2.
What is the point? We already have a 'Perfect' Optimus Prime. The first Masterpiece release. In fact we have two. The original 1984(2) mould is a milestone in toy design.
This is unecessary.

The original MP Op is too big.
We need a Voyager (or slightly larger) Cassics Op in the original style with a trailer. This isn't far off.

The original Convoy is still a pretty peerless piece of toy design and I've never felt it needed an 'improved' version. Witness how so few Primes since can actually manage a decent cab mode and/or an actual base/trailer. Heck, most Prime toys don't even have a trailer/base now.
The only version that comes close is the Laser Rod Prime mould.

I want this toy.
I really do. Especially as an email dropped intoo my inbox this morning offering me one for 175 all in with the customs marked down.
But he's just too big. He's towering over the the classicsbots in the link above. Optimus should be bigger, yes, but not twice as tall. I dumped the originall cos it was just too big.
My quest for the perfect G1 styled classics sized Optimus continues.

MP10 is leaving me cold. I honestly cant' see why anyone would want this when MP 1 was so good. The only difference seems to be the size and some gun storage.
Less Primes. Boooooo.

I remain happy with MP01 and Classic Prime. Assuming this makes it to a TRU for £60 (probably without the trailer) I will probably buy but, it is not high on my list.
I can see the reason for this though. MP Prime and Megatron and a separate ultimate masterpiece pairing. The later MPs are too different so a new Prime fits. A potential new Megatron taking a very different approach to the first MP Megatron would probably interest me more as would a repaint of this with Magnus armour.

It looks a bit crap for the price-point, to be honest, but the nightmare inducing no-face Spike intrigues me. Can't I just have him?

Lets do some Maths
MP10sList price is Y22,000 which according to Japanese exchange rates is £187.30
By contrast a DOTM deluxe is Y2600, or in pounds £22.13
UK Retail is £13, so Japanese price is UK price x 1.70 So we now know how much extra % wise we are paying for a Japanese you
Divide the Japanese price by 1.70 and you get £110.00. So that'd be the UK Value.
I'd pay that. But I'll bet you any money you like the Western version will be £60 and no trailer. I want the trailer.

Didn't the much larger MP Prime with trailer cost and die-cast cost less than that, or am I making that up?

www.hlj.com/product/TKT72302Y18000, but that was five years ago. On the one hand Inflation, on the other downsized, but then again MP-04 is a lot of reused parts.

Exchange rate has changed massively in the last 5 years. Y22000 in 2007 would have been about £100-120 I think. Shipping has gone up. Oil has gone up so upping plastic. Etc, etc.
It's possible because Optimus is so much more iconic than Rodimus that we might get a trailer in a Hasbro release for about £100, but I doubt it.
