I am really intrigued as to what the price-point on this will be. If it's over £60 it will shelf-warm like mad after the adult collectors grab it.

Yeah I cant figure how they will sell it in the UK. I cant see it being £60 as the robot is the same size as Rodimus. I cant imagine anyone would be mad enough to sell it at £100 but cant really see how it will be less.
Honestly I'm surprised the trailer is included as it has to add at least £20, probably more as the movie deluxe prime got $20 added to it for the movie trilogy release with trailer and thats tiny in comparison to MP10.

Oh I do suspect it will be £100 but I just don't see it selling to kids/parents at that price. Especially when shelves are teeming with umpteen other Optimus Prime toys at much lower price-points that aren't shifting.

No it wont, I dont think any TF has ever sold well at over £80. If its £100 I doubt I'll buy, rather find someone in the US (Hello Nick) to get one there and pick up from them or have it posted back as cheap as possible.
If its under £100 I may hope for one of TRU 20% of vouchers.

It does seem a big ask for the UK market - it is inevitably going to be a high price-ticket item and I'm having a hard time seeing it shifting. I can't see how they can bring it in at the same price point as Grimlock or Rodimus, and those struck me as at the upper end of viability..
I don't feel I have a vested interest in this - it hasn't really caught my fancy enough to warrant spending real money on it - but I'd like to see them manage to not end up with an enormously priced shelf-warmer, just in the general interests of the line as a whole in this country.

I can try to grab one of these for anyone. However, I've only one TRU, and they're pretty bad about getting TF exclusives. And between Roddy and Grimmy, they tended to stock just under local demand.
Also, it's believed the US price will be $100, and I won't ask for it in advance, but I'd ask to be paid pretty quickly. Money is extremely tight for me. As is, having to pay Bogatan in installments for his help with the Doctor Who figures he's picking up for me.
Also, I agree with an earlier comment about altmodes ruining a toy. MP Grimlock was a near pass for me, due to a substandard godaweful alt mode.

MP-Grimlock is to me hands down the best of the MP line. An updated version of the original, that is actually fun to pick up and play with.

To each their own, would be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.
I had MP Prime - the first one and got shot of it within a week. Impressively done, but absolutely no fun at all.
Grimlock I found a lot of fun and he's on the desk beside me and I pick him up quite a lot.

MP Grimlock is almost perfect. Great robot mode (I never transform mine. It's the only way it's acceptible). But for alt mode, I don't think it's too much to ask for him to have at least been given correct posture, if nothing else (Such as better arms, larger head).
When it comes to dinosaurs, alt mode matters more than robot. I can't even stand the original BW Dinobot toy, it's beast mode was so aweful. Always used to just swap it flat out for a JP raptor.

Masterpiece Grimlock was very much my cup of tea - basically all I was really looking for was the Diaclone design, only tweaked and upscaled, and with the added tail articulation it pretty much gave me what I was looking for.
The Masterpiece jets were rather nice as well - updating the aircraft modes to resemble the look of modern F-15's and adding the Mospeada-style missile pods were both nice additions to the design and whilst I wasn't entirely sure about the dai-sho styled tail-booms they did grow on me.
The first Masterpiece Convoy was the one that didn't really do much for me. I had a play about with someone elses and didn't find the transformation process to be very enjoyable, and the weirdly shaped vehicle mode with the angled windows seemed to be a deviation from the original look for no reason I could fathom. I figure it has hit a cord with a lot of people given how often it has been re-released, but it wasn't really my cup of tea.
But that is the nice thing about the Masterpiece line - it has been varied enough that there is something for everyone.

Isn't MP Grimlock made to look like he did in the cartoon where he did indeed have a smaller head and walked in the old way we were taught T-Rex's did (upright)? As for MP Prime in the UK. I shall wait until the inevitable sale, depending on paint apps etc. If it looks as bad as the western release of Rodimus I shall pass.

Looking at the way he is engineered I think they were basically up-scaling the diaclone design - which was an upright walker because as you say, that was state-of-the-art in our understanding of dinosaur posture. Karl No, no it wasn't. Even in the eighties I complained any time a dinosaur was portrayed like that. Cutting edge was Jurassic Park which was written with all the then current theories and knowledge we had about dinosaurs (It was heavily outdated by the time the movie was made though.) The concept of Dinosaurs as active normal animals, that held their tails high was not introduced in the ninties. It was early eighties, if not seventies. The G1 Dinobots were outdated when TF came out. And they were borderline outdated when they were designed as diaclones. Also, what they did in the cartoon doesn't matter to me. Not Sunbow fan. When it comes to dinosaur alt modes, I'll tolorate deviations, but accuracy reigns king. Labling that as a dinosaur is as aweful to me as if hasbro released some generic sedan that looks as much like a ford crown victoria as it does anything else, and labeling it as a "Porche." Giving him correct posture, a larger head, and better arms and he not only would have looked somewhat like a robotic representation of an actual dinosaur, he also would have looked more vicious and badass. (I've obcessively studied dinosaurs for over thirty years now. To date, the best dinosaur toy transformers has produced has been the BWX/Cybertron Megatron mold.)

Yeah, in the eighties it wasn't terribly popular to portray them as we know them to be, because it clashed with pop culture. Although it started turning around, toy wise, with Dino Riders.
It's really sad that to date, there's only been two big toylines dedicated to dinosaurs that have tried to portray them even remotely accurately (Dinoriders, and the first two Jurassic Park lines. Count them as one, though) Dinoriders took them so seriously, that Smithsonian commissioned Mattel (I think) to produce just the dinosaur molds themselves for museums. And James Gurney, used the Dinorider Protoceratops toy as a model for Bix, when he wrote and painted Dinotopia.
Don't get me started on those aweful Fall of Cybertron designs, and that redonkulous Grimlock and Swoop. (Snarl's stego mode is really cool, though)
Okay, I'll stop derailing now.
On topic, I look forward to the stateside release. $100 is way too much, but it's a lot better than the $250 or so the japanese release costs. I just wonder why it's too hard to make something compairable to this in the actual mainline? I'd be all over a voyager scaled Classics G1 Optimus. Also wish they ommited the trailer, and sold it at the same price as Grimlock or Hotrod.

Yes, I was aware of the dino designs being outdated even in the 80's. Not too fussed though. I'm the same with car alt modes. All I see are 'blue car', 'red plane', etc!

Fortunately like Ralph alt mode has never concerned me as much as the robot mode.
Within the fiction Spike was responsible for the cartoon build and so it makes sense he based them on the popular look, in the comics its was pretty clear the ark had bugger all idea how organic life worked.
As toys accurate or not I like the look to much to complain. Since MP was an update of the toys/animation model any radical corrections just wouldnt have worked for me. MP Starscream went with the really authentic jet mode and ended up with all sorts of wonky robot proportions that I have never liked that much.

I've come so close to getting MP Grimlock, I've studied endless pics of the fig. Other things to spend my money on was the ultimate reason I didn't buy, but being undecided about what I wanted from a MP Grimlock was a factor. On the one had, and larger more articulated version of G1 Grimlock is very nostalgic. But a MP Grimlock, with an accurate Dino mode would look amazing, and I think I would prefer the latter (although I'd still get the existing one if cheap enough).

MP Grimlock is a fave of mine, don't mind having paid £60 for him at all, and I find the ungainly looking alt-mode actually quite charming. It is one of only a handful I keep out on display and like to tinker with. My daughter likes it too - though when itś in alt-mode she woofs at it ... Fortunately like Ralph alt mode has never concerned me as much as the robot mode. Part of the reason why Action Masters is my favourite TF toy-line. THIS! Kick-Off and Krok are among my favourite ever Transformers. EDIT: my daughter does not have an alt-mode. That I'm aware of.

Unlike the original, it doesn't pass well enough for me. The curve of the tail is way too sharp. MP Grimlock was designed to stand straight up like a man in a rubber suit, like the cartoon. The original Diaclone/TF toy was more in line with the sciences of the sixties in that they didn't stand quite *that* straight. Not sure if it was coincidental, or someone was a dinosaur fan. Either way, they actually bothered to look at dinosaurs (Even if they weren't up to date when they did so). In TF, it's easy to tell when a designer doesn't understand dinosaurs, and did no research on them to compensate. Both MP Grimlock, and the Fall of Cybertron Dinobots are obvious the designers didn't even bother to look at a dinosaur.

But the waiters apron and bow tie - surely that's still scientifically correct isn't it? Yeah, sure. It's a well known and documented fact that it was Acrocanthosaurs that wore aprons and bowties. Tyrannosaurs just sponged off their back yard grillin'. EDIT- Rereading this makes it seem different than I intended. I posted it in complete lightheartedness. I appologize if it seems otherwise, I was channeling supernerd comicbook guy.
